So...I saw someone post about unique wedding favors and I clicked on the link for trending favors..and saw caricatures.. and me AND my FH think its super cool. Since we will have about 145 invited guests...and each artist can do between 10-15 drawings an hour, we are thinking to meet the demand to have two artist for about two to three hours.

But my concern is...I don't want alot of people standing in line to get a drawing instead of being on the dance floor..so has anyone offered this to their guest in lieu of a photobooth?

Also, how did you space it out? My initial thought was to have them drawing right after the ceremony while we are taking pictures. But then do we have them pause for dinner, feed them and then have them start up again?

Can anyone help? lol. Me and FH really want to do this, but we want to do it right so we don't waste any money.

@SpringBride16, can you give more detail on how you are going to do it?

Did a search, found a website, requested info. I heard back today and the preliminary quote is $150/hr with a two hour minimum. The average I saw when researching is that they can do approximately ten an hour. That would just about work out for my 70 guests during a 4 hour reception if they count couples as 1. I have to supply more info and get a specific quote. Talked to FH and told him I really want to do this. We just have to figure out where the money is going to come from.

Hi I just read through this string, I've been doing caricatures at weddings for years in the Long Island, NY area and figured I'd address some of the questions/comments here. The big concern I'm usually asked about having a caricaturist at a wedding is the amount of people that can be done. I tell people it's more like an added attraction for those that want to take part in it, they aren't really a favor that everyone gets. I do lots of smaller backyard weddings as well as at large reception venues, usually by myself, sometimes with another artist. I'll usually do black and white caricatures since they go faster than color, but can still do the bride and groom in color. I and most artists can do 10-12 people per hour in color or 15/16 people per hour in b&w. Even when I'm drawing at a small party like a rehearsal dinner for three hours in color for about 30 people there are people that enjoy seeing them but don't want to get drawn and my style is very complimentary. So I'll start drawing people in groups even though they might've gone already with their spouses, like three of four sisters on a page, or a group of guys.

Crown control seems to be another big issue but in reality it isn't. People/couples tend to come in small groups, usually no more than three or four "on deck" at a time. They add to the anticipation of the couple sitting there being drawn. Also I occasionally do walk around caricatures, usually during the cocktail hour, sometimes for the entire wedding.

As far as tipping goes, I never put out a tip jar. Sometimes someone will hand me one or put one on my marker table, which I put into my pocket and that might start others doing the same, but it only lasts for a short time and stops.

Did you get anything to eat? I hear this at the end of almost all weddings, usually when everyone else is eating someone will approach me and tell me to get something also. Lots of times during a five hour affair I'll have a waiter take my dinner order, I'll ask them to tell me when it's out and where it is. They usually have another room where the dj's, photographers, etc. eat, but about half the time they never mention that it's there and I work right through it.
