Carnival wedding games

Samantha , on August 13, 2017 at 10:36 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

Our wedding is carnival themed and we would like to have games for the guests to play a cocktail hour. We'd also like to give out small prizes. It's an outdoor space. My question is 1) What games could be have for guests to play and win?

2) how would we cohesively keep track of who wins and who/how would the prizes be distributed?

I know I'm not the first person to do something like this so Im just looking for any advice/suggestions on how to manage the games!

Sounds fun but very involved. Do you have a person(s) that will man the games?

Maybe "ring" toss? Seems like there might be other options with a wedding pun in there somewhere. If the prizes are small, could you just allow for an honor system? Maybe leave a sign saying play till you win then grab a prize from the bucket (left next to the game).

Maybe an UO, but games are intended for birthday parties, and children. People are drinking and will socialize during cocktail hour. Save the money you'll spend and put it towards something else.

I think if you did this, the prize would have to be distributed right after the person played the game, otherwise, you're devoting unnecessary time to this during the reception? It seems complicated, I'd keep it simple!

I would suggest rethinking the idea of having the games. Your wedding is quickly approaching and if you don't have the games already prepared it is a lot of work. I am an elementary school teacher and we throw a huge carnival every year for the students that costs our PTO over $20,000 to put together. It really doesn't scream wedding as much as kids birthday party, but the main issue is how much more money you will end up spending so close to your wedding.

If you do choose to still go with this idea after talking with your FH, then 1. You should contact a place that rents out carnival games for kids birthdays and see if they have any adult oriented games. The only thing we've had at our carnival that adults were even involved in was the dunk tank and I do not think any of your guests would be comfortable volunteering for that.

    2. You would need to hire people. It's your wedding so you and your FH shouldn't be managing games and it would be terrible to ask any of your guests to do that. Again you'll need to contact someplace that does this for kids birthday parties and offer to hire staff. This is going to cost you a lot of money.

Also - I do know that carnival themed weddings have been done, but I think it's a little late in planning to begin thinking about the games. You're adding a lot of stress that not many couples would want so close to the wedding. I would suggest instead of getting our advice, talk to your FH and call some vendors to get pricing. See what you can afford. You can also keep things simple and get some silly things off of amazon for photos. We had ones where you can put your face through the hole on the picture to be a different character and it was something everyone enjoyed. You can also get carnival themed back drops and props

Sorry just another bit of advice - every year at our carnival I make cotton candy for our students. If you choose to have a cotton candy machine DO NOT have any guests managing it and make sure you and your FH go nowhere near it. As the machine spins it spits out hot sugar and ruins clothing. So again if you choose to have one hire someone to manage it

I would skip it, I think the cost will out weigh the benefit in this case

Hope you got a great game for your guests. As for us, we loved hiring inflatable games from this bouncy castle hire Newcastle provider. Just recently, we hired this inflatable game called pillow warz (if I remembered the name correctly lol) for our family reunion. It’s a game that can be played by both children and adults. The players will have to balance themselves in the pole and knock off their opponents. Who stays the longest in the pole wins. So simple but it’s a lot of fun, I’m telling you. We all had a good laugh. As for the prizes, it’ll be great to assign one person to handle it to avoid any kind of confusions whatsoever.
