Carribean in late August/early September?

glennsgrl, on March 11, 2009 at 12:43 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 15

Getting married on 8/29... wanting to go to the Carribean. Is this a bad idea? This is hurricane season, right? Has anyone else done this? If so, any ideas? Not Jamaica.. been there. Would like to do an all inclusive resort. Have been to Sandals.. any other good options?

I really have no idea to be perfectly honest. I would suggust calling a sandals representative and ask them to be sure.

You are definitely talking about hurricane season. And just as easily as nothing could happen, it could get really bad. Have you considered Hawaii? No hurricanes there!

Our wedding is in mid-Sept and we're facing the same issue. I really don't want to postpone the honeymoon because I've heard that it's not the same if you wait. We're thinking Aruba - it's outside of the hurricane belt and we went in May two years ago and loved it. The island itself is a desert so it's not as lush as what I've always pictured my honeymoon being, but the beach can not be beat. We stayed at the Divi All-Inclusive, but I would suggest actually not doing an all-inclusive in Aruba. There are so many great restaurants (but they are pricey). Aruba is part of the ABC islands, so there is also Bonaire and Curacao to consider. Or, I have also heard Costa Rica can be a consideration during hurricane season, but I'm not sure if that's true. We're also considering Cabo San Lucas, but I'm afraid we will be disappointed without the carribbean waters. Good luck!

We have the same wedding date Smiley smile We thought of the same thing, I really, really wanted to go to St. Lucia (Sandals), but after going over the hurricane scenario over and over, we decided against it, even with the travel insurance. We did not want Hawaii (no all-inclusive and too many kids running around) and we thought about Bora Bora, but it's a super-long flight. We ended up chosing a resort in Playa del Carmen. It's still on the hurrican belt, but when we looked at the stats, storms were less likely to go there (crossing fingers), but we also protected ourselves with the travel insurance there too. I think you have to look at what would make you guys happy and then either chose whether you want the gamble or not. Good luck!

The Caribbean can still be a great choice for late August. Although this is hurricane season, many travelers are never affected by weather. I always suggest travel insurance, this allows you to change location at the last minute should a hurricane be near or predicted. I would be happy to give you some ideas that fit your dreams and budget. I am a preferred Sandals agent, there are many great resorts that specialize in honeymooners. Something for everyone and every budget. I have a questionnaire that helps to find the perfect location and resort for you and your finance. Email me at ****@********************.*** and I would be happy to help you. My services are free and we do have price guarantee.

What about the West Coast of Mexico, on the Pacific side? No hurricanes at that time of the year. Check out Ixtapa for all inclusives.

When you consider that hurricane season technically runs June 1- November 30, it would really limit your honeymoon destination if you didn't consider the Caribbean or Mexico. I help many honeymooners plan their late summer and fall honeymoons to the Caribbean and Mexico and for the most part, they have had wonderful honeymoons without incident. I always recommend travel insurance, just in case.

Aruba is great and out to of the hurricane zone. St Lucia and Barbados have lower percentages of hurricanes than some of the other islands in the Caribbean. Although I wish that I could predict the weather, no one can this far out.

If you take a look at this chart on my website (scroll all the way down to see it), it might help a bit with your decision making process.

We are going to St. Lucia September 14-21 this year. I too am worried about Hurricanes but have heard that St. Lucia is normally not an area that gets hit often... You could try the other side of Mexico if you are really worried...

Hi! I must say that unfortunately end of August is in the middle of hurricane season, and the best recommendation would be to purchase a travel insurance...especially, cancellation for any reason coverage! This way you will have peace of mind. The southern Caribbean islands, especially Aruba (considered south of the hurricane belt)are usually the safest choice. Yet, they too are not untouchable by a possible hurricane or tropical storm.

Would love to speak with you about further ideas and relay the details about the insurance...my name is Stefanie, from Best Cruises and Travel. Our agency does NOT charge any service fee, so kindly contact me personally and we can chat as much as you want! **********@***.***/301.924.7225 Take Care!

This response is directed to Allyson about Barbados (and to anyone else who is interested)!

Barbados is a lovely island and in recent years it's become a favorite destination wedding site as well. Their beaches and many of the properties on the island of won numerous awards. Some of my personal favorties are the Coral Reef Club, the Crane, the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, the Sandpiper and the Sandy Lane Hotel and Golf Club (do any of you two golf?). These are more intimate properties, Sandy Lane being the largest. If you are looking for an all-inclusive,the Almond Casuarina Beach Resort is the best and on a lovely stretch of beach. The Almond Beach Club and Spa is for adults only and is very nice, however the beach area is rocky. Let me know if I can be of further assistance! Take Care, Stefanie, Best Cruises and Travel

Hi Glennsgirl! We run a really unique All Inclusive Honeymoon Villa in Costa Rica. It is very romantic and tropical. Best of all, even though it is not far from the states, it is completely out of the hurricane zone.

Please have a look and see if it is something that interest you!

(It is located near Manual Antonio State Park, in the rain forest).

Hi! I've lived in Puerto Rico (part of the Caribbean) for all my life and my experience with the hurricane season is that even though of course it is difficult to predict the majority of the time it is not until fall that there are many hurricanes (meaning at around late September, beginning of October). Now if you want to get the traveler's insurance then that's fine but I truly believe you will have no problem. And btw have you considered having your wedding here... now we don't have all inclusive hotels but there are certain advantages of PR. It's still US (nobody needs a passport to get in or out), beaches, beautiful extravagant hotels to have your wedding and the majority of the people in the island speak english. Just consider it! Hope this helps!

Why not try a beach wedding in Hawaii. Of all the beaches a beach wedding in Hawaii is the most romantic and fabulous. Check this site for more info http://www.squidoo.com/beach-wedding-hawaii
