Cash bar and cash food???

Monica, on July 1, 2017 at 10:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 60

So i was talking to my FH about the GM attire and he was pointing out that one of them already had the suspenders and bow tie from his cousin's wedding he was in. We continued discussing it and he mentioned that said GM said that his cousin's wedding kind of sucked and explained that they had a cash bar and they had to pay for their plate, so he was really looking foward to our wedding due to the food and open bar. I was so perplexed as to how someone has a wedding and makes guest pay for their food. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I would've walked my happy ass right out of the wedding and taken my gift with me.

@Richard lolll i was embarrassed for them, because i have met them. I mean everyone was talking about it. Don't have a wedding if you can't feed your guest

Ummmm...never heard of this 'cash food' business for a wedding with a WP!

The closest is where a relative had a courthouse wedding. We knew about it/when it was to happen & as a family, all decided that we would meet out for a meal/BYO afterwards. We were totally OK with this. They were just starting out & we all understood.

Wow... I just want to know more. Did guests know ahead of time that it was cash-dinner? Did they charge for cake too? Did they have a honeyfund? The mind reels!!

@trang haha i know the BP knew before hand and since they were family they kind of felt obligated. As far as a honeyfund i really wouldnt know, but they are not common here.

I've heard of open food but I would never go to that. It's rude! Cash bar I personally won't do but I've been to weddings with them and it want a huge deal. That's crazy to pay for your own plate though!

I would have had to punch the couple in the dick, and leave.

When did they tell everyone this and how on earth did they enforce it?! That's unbelievable!

I had never even heard of a cash bar until I came here. I have seen exactly one of them, and it was like mutiny when people found out. It just isn't done here.

Paying for food?? I have heard of the metaphor, "pay for your plate', as in give a gift that covers the cost of your dinner...but never actually paying for your food. How does that even work?

Cash bar, ok. But I've never heard of cash food! If I wanted to pay to eat, I would've gone to a restaurant. That couple definitely would not have gotten any presents from me. Maybe a card from the dollar store because I'm nice

@lynnja i think they stated the info in the invite, but how they reinforced it i have no idea. Someone by the door asking for the money? Ughhh so tacky

I wonder how shocked the guests where to find out they had to pay to eat! Wth? I would have walked out and hit the nearest restaurant.
