Just went to my cousins sweet 16 last night and my notoriously cheap aunt had a cash bar. It shouldn't have been a shock, but it was. Having to walk back to my purse to get a card to put on file because I had no cash was uncomfortable and annoying. Sorry.. Just still aggravated about it today.

Shanita no. It should never be put on the invites what's not being hosted. That's rude. Even ruder is to make your guests pay for drinks at an event that you're supposed to be hosting.

@amanda okay, I understand. But my point was trying to be about how guests feel at cash bars.

@shanita at one point, I probably would have agreed with you. But being a guest at a cash bar sucked. It would probably suck even more at a wedding. I'm all for giving the finger to some etiquette and traditions, also all for saving money. But I would cut else where, and spend the money on liquor. Even if it's just beer and wine

Some people apparently don't get it. When you host an event with adults present, and there is alcohol available, they should NOT have to pay for it. No one should have to open their wallets at an event hosted by others. Whether it's a wedding, birthday party, anniversary party, etc, - it does not matter. It's very simple.

Shanita- planning on selling tickets to your wedding or charging at the door? Maybe charge more if they don't bring a gift?

    Cash bars are awful.

There was a cash bar at my cousin's quinceanera. There was alcohol there because parties like that (sweet 16 or the Hispanic version for 15) tend to be family affairs on a wedding standard. So I can guess why there was a bar there at all.

There was also a cash bar at another cousin of mine's wedding, and EVERYONE was pissed. Granted, last year I went to a dry wedding and was really disappointed (not to mention highly uncomfortable because social anxiety + obnoxious DJ + didn't know 99% of people there). Cash bar was definitely better than no bar.

That's too bad Shanita that you can't assume any of your guests will be responsible adults and know their limits. It sounds like renting a shuttle or hotel blocks is out of the question for you?
