You definitely should never ask directly for money. It’s considered incredibly inappropriate and rude. If you do not want physical gifts, I would simply not register for any physical items. Guests know that cash is a good gift, and they will typically default to that anyway; especially in the absence of a registry. here and there, you will find a few guests (especially older people) who prefer to give a physical item. If you want to prevent getting items you don’t want, you could create a very small registry. Another option could be to set up a honeymoon fund. I know they’ve become quite popular recently. However, do be aware that those sites take a percentage of the money guests contribute. Because of that, I’ve found most guests prefer to just give cash.
