Casual post elopement party decor help!!!!

meghen, on August 14, 2015 at 9:52 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 3

We are having a VERY casual elopement party in a hall that has room to play lawn games. We want to keep it as affordable and casual as possible. We plan on serving fried chicken and suggesting people to wear jeans. It's gonna be September 27th which is fall for Michigan.

We have a sunflower wedding cake and I'm obsessed with sunflowers so I thought mason jars with sunflowers inside of them for center pieces? Is that too fancy?

We have round tables and I have no idea how to decorate them. What centerpieces should we use? What color tablecloths? What about those little snack bowls people put on tables?

I can't even decorate my house lol. Thank you so much!

I think sunflowers in mason jars is perfect! Definitely not too fancy! You could keep it super simple with white tablecloths, or add some burlap runners to go with the decor of the wedding cake!

That's fantastic. "Rustic" style is what you're looking for if you're on Pinterest. Here are some tips:

-- burlap runners are excellent quality and cheap from tableclothsfactory.com (I got mine for around $3 on sale... their actual tablecloths get mixed reviews for quality, but the burlap was perfect). (see pic)

-- get a roll of lace-over-burlap ribbon, 3" wide, from Michael's to decorate the cake table - simple, casual, and elegant (see pic)

-- Mason jars are great - the cheapest I found were from Fillmore Container in Lancaster, PA - but we're not too far from them, so shipping might offset the savings. Worth checking out, they also have no-brand mason mugs for $.84/ea.! The best price I found for actual branded Mason jars is, surprise, KMART.com.... I checked Walmart.com, Michael's, AC Moore, and several other online only options - KMART.com came in best price, but that was about six months ago, so check around

-- For flowers, look for a local wholesaler... i.e., a place that sells flowers to florists. Most will either let the public buy direct in the warehouse, or will ship to you direct online, at significant savings. Sunflowers ship really well, and you'll do better than any florist can offer. My hydrangeas were $15/ea from a florist, and I got them for $6/ea from a local wholesaler.

-- A great cheap flower that is pretty, lasts forever, and are 'casual' and goes with sunflowers is any kind fo daisy, including Chamomile flowers! Chamomles are tall full stems, and look like tiny daisies with yellow centers, and these are CHEAP. You could augment your sunflower theme with these, as well as other types of dasies. In Maryland where I'm from, the state flower is a "black eyed susan", which is the same color as a sunflower... http://www.onestylishbride.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/vase.jpg is an example of the black eyed susans, and the pic below is chamomile flowers with some white peonoies, in a $3 5-gallon bucket from Home Depot we draped with a $4 burlap coffee sack I got off craig's list Smiley smile

-- If you want to do the round bowls instead of mason jars, get coupons for your local Michael's crafts, and look for 40% full priced items, or 30% off entire full-priced order, and pick up the thin centerpiece glass bowls you're talking about. They have them in the floral aisle, and the small ones are $3.99, and bigger are a few dollars more (full price). Just make sure to buy one or two extra, as they are think glass and can break easily in transit. There are two types: thicker ones they sell with the apothacary jars, for candy, and thin ones - much cheaper - they sell in the floral aisle.

-- If you're doing table numbers, Michael's has $1 raw wood picture frames, no glass, that you can leave plan or stain or paint. We bought these, and an $8 can of chalkboard paint, sprayed the piece of cardboard that comes in the frame as a sample, antiqued the wood with a $8 jar of wax, and wrote the numbers with a chalk pen. (See pic)

In my head, if you do the round bowls, a single sunflower head in a bowl of water, with some river stones ($3/bag @ Michaels) strewn on the bottom will be a pretty and simple casual centerpiece.

You can also toss some stones around the bowl as well as in the bottom of it (or the mason jar) to create a nice 'organic' feeling, and they're inexpensive.

I like ConcreteBride's suggestion of using kraft paper, too ... that's an under appreciated tool Smiley smile

You could also wrap the silverwear in white paper doilies or kraft paper, and tie them with jute string from the craft store, for a rustic and inexpensive way to dress up the place settings.
