Catering Insurance & Licensing

Kyra, on July 21, 2021 at 2:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

Our venue requires our caterer to have licensing in our state (MD) and have a Certificate of Insurance that is general liability insurance in the amount of "no less than $1,000,000 combined single limit for bodily injury and property damage". Is this something anybody like restaurants would have, or only specifically catering companies? Do I need to ask all the options individually if they have these to find out?

Also, does this apply if they're just dropping off food and someone else is serving it?! HELP

I didn't realize there were SO many kinds of insurances required by venues for caterers, bartenders & even us.

That is a question you have to ask the venue.

Hi Kyra! I'd ask your venue about the difference between dropping off and serving food and how that might affect liability, but the general insurance up to 1 million dollars is pretty standard for wedding vendors, caterers, and restaurants to have!!

But still make sure to double-check with the companies you're interested in that they meet these insurance requirements!
