Catering problem - has anyone successfully gotten a deposit refunded?

Michael, on May 7, 2019 at 10:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
We are getting married in end of October. Company had decent reivews. We signed the contract and paid our 30% deposit. Then the issues started first our cater seperated from his business partner. He assured us that everything would be fine and no changes to menu. Okay whatever, businesses change sometimes. We don't like it but what can we do.

Then we hear from our venue coordinator that the catrer doesnt have a license to operate any more and there was a previous wedding at the venue which was a disaster.

We want to ask for a refund and cancel the contract now. Has anyone ever done something like this successfully?

I would say if they aren't a licensed caterer then they breached their own contract and it's grounds for termination.

I would read your contract but it sounds as though they are breaking their own contract and that would be reason enough to let you terminate your contract and get a refund.

Did the contract specify they would have a license? If so, you can for sure get your deposit back since they broke the contract.

    Hi Michael!

Did you get this situation with the caterer resolved?

As the previous posters mentioned, I would definitely take a detailed read through your contract and see what can be done about your deposit.
