Catering Under $1000? Is it possible??

FutureMrsForbes, on November 6, 2013 at 1:25 PM Posted in Planning 1 48

We are getting married in a local park, in Western Michigan. We are trying to keep the budget trimmed up tight and under $3000, so far so good. We are meeting with a couple caterers in the next couple weeks for our August 2014 wedding.

My question, do we think it's possible to feed 100 people for $1000 or less?? Do you know any Michigan Vendors this might be possible with?? Or is this just a pipe dream??

That's $10/person. Do you know of any restaurants that will serve a meal for that much?

100 people? No way. Like Amy said, maybe BBQ but that could be a long shot as well.

When I looked for catering options basically the only thing under $10/ person was lasagna with salad and garlic bread. So I would say thats the kind of thing you can expect for that price.

Take out lasagna from an Italian place? Similarly, BBQ to-go (where you pick it up and serve yourself on-site)? Maybe a taco or pizza truck?

In terms of actual catering where you have people there serving it... in NH the cheapest we could find was BBQ for around $15 a head. Which people would have had to walk outside and pick up from their mobile BBQ set-up. We ended up having to expand the budget to do a buffet.

If you were a Missouri / St Louis gal I would say muscatcholli (spelling)? Seems like it is at EVERY wedding here, LOL. I like the BBQ idea, nobody really remembers the food anyway.

Or just have the big stuff catered like the main dish and a few sides. Then throw together a big ass tossed salad, some rolls...?

Mine is about $1000 for 50 people... and I'm doing a brunch wedding to save money.

So honestly, I'm not sure you'll be able to have a nice meal on such a tight budget.

But doing a brunch/lunch is much cheaper than dinner, so something to think about.

Having your wedding done by a professional caterer is always easier and less stressfull however 10.00 PP for a wedding is usually pretty darn good!!

BUT - to cut costs even more you can buy your own utensils and plates and sternos to keep the food warm plus the food for 500 or less... Im having my mom cater my wedding and its fo almost 200 people and were planning to spend under 700$. im sure if you buy the food yourself and even hire someone you know cheap to serve it itll deff cut costs!

Ceremony is at 6pm that is when the venue was available. So Lunch is out of the question, due to venue times.

I have considered doing some type of pig roast. It's a park wedding with a rustic theme, so a pig roast could work.

I've found one catering place that will do serve, with china rental included, and dessert for $20 a person. Which is a good deal, I'm just hoping for a little less. We can afford more into the budget but would rather spend the money on household remodeling.

What part of MI do you live in? Like what's the biggest city closest to your venue?

I think that's a little low but you could probably do something for a little more.

$20 per person with china included is a pretty good deal - but maybe since your wedding is in a park, which I assume isn't super formal, you could ask them if you could provide plastic or paper instead to cut back the cost? It will save them on labor for the clean-up and as long as it isn't something that needs to be cut up (e.g. steak) it's not annoying to eat off of as a guest.

Disagree - I REMEMBER food, both for being very good and for being very bad. The DJ and the food is what I remember, and then any other details that were either really awesome or really crappy.

BBQ sounds good to me. It's not necessary the type of food, but the quality.
