Catholic ceremony- pets?

Jennifer, on April 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 10
So I’d really like to incorporate my fur baby as a ring bearer but am unsure if a Catholic Church would allow him in to walk down the aisle. It would only be for that walk, and I would have his nanny take him out after that and bring him home. Has anyone ever asked this question to their church before?

My sister wanted to include her dog and the priest laughed in her face and said absolutely not.

It may be up to the parish though.

No way no how! Maybe for pics outside? But it’s not happening at church. I wouldn’t even ask in fear of how the question would offend the priest!

My family is Catholic so I've been to quite a few Catholic weddings and I don't think there's any way they would allow this.

Yeah I don't think that's going to happen... sorry to say. You could maybe include him in pictures outside. I'm including a charm of my dog on my bouquet (he's still alive, but I thought it would be a way to include him since he's part of our family). FH's cufflinks have a picture of our dog as well.

That’s a cute idea! Thanks! Yeah I probably won’t even bother asking the priest then !

There's no harm in asking, but this would not be allowed at the churches I'm familiar with. Maybe he could come be in some pictures after the ceremony.

I wanted to include my pup in my ceremony, but the reception area is not pet friendly and it wouldn't be fair to leave my pup in the unfamiliar hotel room. What i did instead is I put her on my welcome sign! I have some artistic talent, so I did it myself, but there's a few etsy sellers that can do it. I drew me, my FH, his cat, and my dog. It's super cute!

I think this will depend on the specific church and the priest. I know my Catholic grandma had her dog baptized, so I'm going to say if that is possible, anything is possible. lol
