Catholic Donations

Melissa, on June 18, 2022 at 5:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

I am planning a church abroad and my local parish is preparing the paperwork for me as well as a letter of freedom to send to the priest abroad. I will be making a donation to the church abroad for the ceremony and all, but my local church has said there is a charge or ahem... "donation" fo $1000 just to help us get everything together on this end. I was a bit blindsided by this. I really can't afford to pay two churches. Does anyone else have experience with this?

$1000 for just prepping you is definitely way too much. Getting married in the Catholic church that I'm using is less than that, including paying for singers. Is there a way that you can escalade this up to the diocese?

That amount is unfortunately not unheard of. Our Catholic Church required a whopping $1,350 and that was if you are a DONATING MEMBER (they charge $1,000 more if you’re not an actively donating member….). That didn’t even include the cantor…..we had to pay her $250 separately…
