Q
Dedicated August 2020

Catholic Pre-cana.

Q, on May 18, 2021 at 5:04 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11
Hi ladies! My fiancé is catholic and I’m orthodox. We are getting married in a Catholic Church. We are required to do pre-Cana beforehand. Bad news bears my fiancé never got around to setting up our appointment and now the sessions offered are closed! It’s not looking good!! Does anyone know of any online courses or courses you’ve done that are approved by the Catholic Diocese that can get us out of this bind?! We are supposed to get married in august 13th. Invitations were JUST mailed out 😅😅😅

I would reach out to your priest immediately! They will be able to tell you what your options are. I’m pretty sure last summer their were online options.

We did! He says that there may be another session in the fall. So it’s really frustrating and not very helpful…..

Try this link. My diocese is offering an online option and our priest has said we can do either online or in person.

That doesn’t help with an August wedding! I hope you get this all straightened out.

I’m not sure of any online offerings, but even if you find one I would be sure to clear it with your priest because not all archdiocese will accept the same pre-cana courses.

I would ask your priest. We did pre-cana one on one with a priest. We also had the option to go on a weekend retreat if we wanted. You should be able to work something out if you and your fiance can be flexible

Did you mention your wedding date to him? Also is he the pastor at the parish or an associate? You can appeal to a superior

It's pretty standard to set the wedding date at least 6 months (some dioceses require a year) in advance to complete pre-Cana. PP are right, you HAVE to talk to your priest about this. We did Better Together through Dynamic Catholic, because there were no in person sessions due to covid. But your parish/diocese may not accept that.

We set up our date with our priest last October. He and priest mentioned not having to do it because of COVID. But the church we are having the ceremony at (within the Diocese does require). I asked hubby to set it up and he waited to long. Men ugh lol.
I contacted and heard back from our priest who will administer our sacrament and he says he is going to iron things out.
Also spoke with the priest who’s church offered the Pre-Cana for our diocese (online but closed the dates available) and he says he will try to figure something out to help us. 😅😅😅😅😅😅Nothing like the potential threat of not being allowed to get married in church on your wedding day 85 days out.

As the non Catholic spouse in my marriage, if my DH hadn't done the prep work I'd say okay, we can get married in my church then 🤷🏻‍♀️ y'all have to do what works for you but a lot of men on these boards need to step up
