Catholic Wedding "Outside the Mass"

Melanie, on April 17, 2016 at 3:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Hi,

I'm having a Catholic Lite version of a wedding- I'm Catholic, FH is baptized Christian but not Catholic. Our Deacon told us we may get lucky and have a 20 min ceremony. Anybody have the non-traditional Catholic mass- how long was it roughly?

Normally the ones without mass and communion are 20 minutes.

We are still having it inside the church, it's just a super modified, non-denominational homily service with the Liturgy of the Word. When he said 20 min we were both smiling.

Ours was in the church but without mass or communion. It lasted less than 25 minutes.

The church we're getting married at said about a half an hour without mass or Communion, which is reasonable. 20 minutes would be great though!

Our priest also said it would be about 45 minutes. I wish it would be shorter. 20 minutes would be awesome

Thanks for this thread, Melanie! FH and I are the same but switched, and planning to "water down" our Catholic ceremony as well, as we really want our ceremony to be a true blend of two families =)

Ours was still around 40 minutes. It just depends on the how long the deacon talks during the homily.

ETA: Most of our family and friends were not Catholic. If I were to do it again, I would have made a sheet that made it easier for guests to follow along. It was obvious they didn't know what was happening at all.

@nicole I made a program for my guests. It was something I was kind of against because of the time put in only to be thrown away! Some mentioned that they appreciated it that I made it easy to follow along since they weren't Catholic!

@tina I bet you had a beautiful wedding Smiley smile

We're not having a full Mass, just a Ceremony and our Priest said to expect it to be between 30-45 minutes.
