Cats, in my wedding?

Khrystelle, on February 8, 2018 at 1:30 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 19
Hey all. My first post. I said yes on Sunday, and we set a date of 8/18/18.

Most things are handled already. However Hubby-to-be LOVES animals, we have 3 cats, 2 geckos, and 3 sugar gliders.
He really wants the cats (our furbabies) involved. And I think it sounds great, but I'm not sure how to incorporate them, especially at an outdoor venue (his families property)

I don't have anything really helpful to add here, just dropping in to say I would love to incorporate my cat! I think the most you could do is incorporate them into photos. Unlike dogs, they won't walk down the aisle all cute with a ring around their necks. If they're outdoor cats, they could just mill about but I can't imagine they would be okay with a large volume of people present.

You might have a harder time getting the cats to cooperate. Sorry I don't have much to offer for ideas, but I'm following since this is an interesting topic!

I don't have an answer, only a suggestion... warn your guests. I'm allergic to cats like epi-pen allergic to cats, and I know a large number of people with the same allergy. I think Annisa had a good idea incorporate them into photos. I personally wouldn't be able to sit where cats or their hair may be flying freely

I’m getting these made to look like our dogs. FH wants our dogs at the ceremony but I explained why it isn’t a good idea. I’m going to have these made to surprise him for pictures.

I would recommend practicing walking the cat on a harness. You'll want to use a cat who is not skittish around people and loud noises. Good luck!

I love my kitties dearly, but I would never ever bring them to my wedding unless they were trained since kittenhood to be in public places and crowds. It's going to cause them a ton of stress and no one is going to have the attention span to watch them. Cats she'd when stressed and all that hair will end up in food, drinks, and on clothing. Some cats react violently and may hurt someone.

Instead, take a lovely photo with your cats and make a canvas guestbook out of it. Or use them as models for your cake topper. There are alternative ways to include the cats.

You could do a subtle nod to them by naming a signature drink after them or a cake topper with cats in it. I’m sure there’s other ideas on Etsy or Pinterest.

I am taking pictures of my dogs in tuxes and bow ties before the ceremony. So we’ll all be in formal attire. Then once we’re done with that, our dog sitters will take them home. I posted a similar question a week or so ago and the general consensus I got was that weddings are very high stress on animals- noises, smells, strangers. We decided it would be best to just have the pictures done with the two of us and spare our boys the anxiety. With cats you’ll definitely want a harness and leash, they can be skiddish and take off fairly quickly- that would really suck to deal with in your big day! Whatever you chose is up to you! Smiley smile The most control you have over the environment the better. Also I second the allergy thing because my sister is highly allergic to cats and has severe asthma so if someone unannounced brought a cat around her and she didn’t have her inhaler, she could die. Not to be a downer, I am so pro involving your fur babies! Just make sure you have all your bases covered so no one, including your pets, gets hurt or too stressed.

FH and I love our cats but they will be hanging out at home alone, away from the crowds while were getting married and celebrating afterwards. They would be very unhappy at a wedding and I would be very unhappy if while trying to take pictures with them one of them clawed and ripped my dress.

What if you did more relaxed engagement photos at your house with the cats and then used them for save the dates?

A wedding is not the place for cats. I love my cat dearly, she’s my child but no way would I let her come to the wedding. I’m not totally sure a venue would be on board with having cats there either

Yeah I was thinking maybe you could take some engagement photos with the cats. Then for the wedding maybe just have some subtle cat decorations, like a cat cake topper! I have seen some cute ones online!

My friends took their save the dates photos with their cats! (the cats hated it and the photos are so funny)

I would do the cut out idea, or name a drink after them, or have some photos of them and your other animals at the reception. I think a wedding would be really stressful for your cats which would end up stressing you out.

Cats are definitely harder to involve. We have 3 furbabies that we SO wish we could have with us like people do their dogs. Just not possible.

-My future Brother-In-Law and his wife had a string of photos of him and his bride above the guest book at their wedding. This would be a great place to incorporate photos of your family (animals included).

-I have seen place settings that have a photo of the couple. Like each table got a unique photo of the couple. This is another place to incorporate a photo of your entire family.

I have seen people do like cardboard cut-outs but I think that is quite creepy. Please don't do that. LOL

I love my cat. FH even calls it our little family but I would absolutely not get her involved. She would freak out just traveling in the car. I would spend more time comforting her than enjoying the day.

    Look at something like this:

It’s a super adorable way to incorporate your babies into your day without causing them or you distress.

Our signature drinks will be named after our two dogs, they are both rescues and not cooperative but they try! We would love to have them, we are getting married at a working farm, but it would just be too much for them emotionally. I am having two caricatures done from their photos and putting them on the bar with the signature drink listed below.
