CDs as wedding favors...too outdated?

Private User, on July 31, 2014 at 2:37 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

I had this really cute idea that I would burn CDs with love songs that would be played at our wedding reception. Both my fiance and I grew up in this era and both love music. I'm wondering, however, if CDs are too outdated and people won't even take them. What are your opinions?

You could always do little flash drives with the songs on them.

Most cars still have a cd drive I think? So for that reason I think it could still work. I think I would be down with getting a cd..but I am kinda old school. I still have a closet of VCR tapes that I am not quite ready to get rid of yet.

It is a really sweet idea, but I can see a lot of them being left and a lot of money being wasted. Your love songs may not strike a chord with everyone (see what I did there?) I wouldn't take one with me. Stick with edible favors, always a crowd pleaser.

Not everyone has the same taste in music. Personally, I wouldn't take one if I was a guest.

I have to agree with EmmyJ. The idea is sweet, but your love songs may not be special to your guests. I also wouldn't take one with me.

I wouldn't take it. I'm super picky about my music. A really cute idea, though, I'm just wouldn't want you to spend all the time and effort.

We're giving CDs as wedding favors. I love music, so I'd take one just to see what new or different music I'd hear. Plus, it's such an affordable favor, I say why not?

If there is a history of love song CDs between you and your FH than I think it is really cool! Otherwise, it feels random to me personally. Everyone I know has a CD player in their car, so you should be fine.

I may incorporate lyrics from our fav songs into something decor-wise. Haven't decided.

    Yes. Too outdated.

I would download songs to a cheap USB key instead. If you call a local promo store for cheap ones. At least that is useful. Lots of people have computers without CD drives now a days and most don't own stereo systems with CD players anymore.

Although it comes from the heart, I also probably wouldn't take it. I don't use my CD player (my laptop doesn't have one, either) and we don't have a stereo. There's a chance we don't share the same taste in music, also or I already have the songs in my iPod.

I have three of them from various weddings. I have never played any of them, though I think it's a sweet idea.

I think it's a cute idea, but people probably won't listen to them again. That and like some other ladies have said people have different tastes in music and might not want to hear all those songs again.

Unless your wedding has a music theme I'd suggest finding something else.

My friend did this for her wedding 10 years ago, so yes, a bit dated. I think I listened to it twice.

Awww! That's a sweet idea still! I wouldn't care as a guest what your taste in music is. I would just appreciate the idea that you are making something for the guest to remember that day and get to know the couple just a little bit more.

I think little 1gb flash drives would be a good idea too though. That way, if people (like some of the people here) don't really like the music, they can just delete the songs off of it and use the flash drive for something else so at least it's still useful. 1gb flashdrives are so cheap anyways that I wouldn't mind doing that. Why didn't I think of that?! LOL

That's sweet but honestly I wouldn't take one. We went to one and my sis took one then listened to it. A year later it ended up in the trash while going through a purging stage

I say do it! I am considering doing this as well. Your wedding guests are YOUR closest family and friends. I'm sure you have similar tastes in music. Even if you don't, I cant imagine them not at least taking a listen once or twice. Plus, your out of town guests (who drove) will be thankful for some entertainment for the drive home Smiley smile. I've gotten cd's as a wedding favor twice before and I LOVE them. One totally wasn't my fav genre of music, but I've learned to really enjoy it. Your favors are for your guest, yes, but they should also reflect you and your fiance's personality as well. Someone mentioned an edible favor, but that's a gamble as well. At the end of the day, do what works for you and your guests. Whatever you decide will be great I'm sure. Blessings and luck on an amazing wedding day! ☺️
