Ceiling draping with lights??

Caitlin, on November 9, 2017 at 12:14 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

Did anyone do ceiling draping (like the picture attached) at their wedding with LED lights? Where did you get the material and lights from in bulk? I'm looking for somewhere that's affordable!

We're looking into it, but we're getting quotes from vendors to do it. I'm not spending my wedding day doing it.

    Try orientaltrading.com

Wanted it, but my venue's ceiling is way too high, so we're having our drapery vendor just do the walls and pillars

Oy. I have to recommend against trying to DIY this....it's harder than you think, and takes a lot of moving parts and prep work. How are you going to secure everything to the ceiling? Will it support the weight of the fabric/ Are you sure your venue will even allow you to DIY something like this? Check first.

But if you must, try Fabric Wholesale Direct (I would use chiffon personally), they sell 100 yard bolts. Try Lights.com for your string lights. Neither of these are true wholesalers (both sell to the public), but you can get most things in bulk.

Check with your venue to see if they would even let you DIY this. Most will require a professional.

Nothing about that is "affordable". Also, you will definitely need a pro for that.

I should've specified. The venue told me I could do this, and she told me to just find the materials and that she will figure out the rest for me. She's a very very nice and accommodating person. That's half the reason I chose her venue because she actually will work with you to try and have what you want Smiley smile

We have something like this at the venue I work for. The fabric is tulle and I purchased it from tulleshop.com. However I would not recommend doing this by yourself, or having family do it. You have to get exact measurements and figure out how to secure it. Then you have to perfect the slack on it so it's not too droopy. Plus someone is going to have to get up on a pretty tall ladder, and I don't think your venue would want that liability (I know I don't let any of my clients get on the ladder).

We had one couple that wanted to drop lights in and it was a huge pain getting them in, and when they did it dropped the rest of the fabric so it looked wonky.

Definitely find a professional if you can afford it.

Otherwise, make sure it'll be the person running the venue actually doing it, not you or a family member.

Our inclusive venue offers this as an option. I'm assuming they already own all the necessary materials, so the only cost to them is hanging it and taking it down again. They charge about $1000 for it. Daughter has made room for it in the budget because it makes a huge, positive difference in the look of the reception site.

We're hiring a vendor to hang draping and string lights.

We're hiring a vendor. Unfortunately it's about 3K. I suppose (hope?) that means it's time consuming!

I'd worry about any draping being a fire hazard. We weren't allowed to have anything hanging, at our venue. We just had uplights and pin-spots.

I didn't do it but I would definitely hire a professional for this. I wanted simple ceiling draping and it came out to around $500 so I just skipped it.

I would not do this myself. No way. I know the party rental stores will set it up and tear it down for you. To me, that is something that I would need practice at and could not do the first time on my wedding day, plus I would not want to spend the time doing it or be micro managing family doing it. I would advise a pro.

I do know it is pricey.

In our venue, there is a wall of mirrors that I cannot stand. The pipe and drape for the wall alone was hundreds of dollars. ugh.
