Centerpiece ideas for people that don't like centerpieces. Ideas please!

Alyssa, on May 12, 2014 at 8:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

Hi! My fiancé and I are marrying on June 21st 2014. Everything is going great other than centerpieces. We have no idea what to do because neither of us really like centerpieces. I feel like cut flowers are usually a waste of money. Does anyone have any ideas ? Preferably budget friendly diy and/or outside of the box. Our wedding colors are aqua/teal and purple. We do not have an actual theme. Thank you!

Centerpieces are totally unnecessary. It's just decoration. I recommend checking out Offbeatbride.com for non-floral centerpieces; those might be up your alley. But again, they're not actually necessary, so if you don't feel like having something extra on the tables, it's not worth bothering.

I have mismatched candle holders from yard sales and thrift shops and will probably put one on each table with a Wal-Mart or dollar store candle in them. I am doing autumn things as a sort of theme, so will scatter silk autumn leaves on the tables around the candles. Candles with ivy or other greenery could be nice. If you're doing winter, pinecones would be nice. (Sorry I'm on my phone and can't see what season your wedding is...)

Stephanie- I thought of just leaving the tables empty but I thought it may look funny. Il definitely check out off beat bride. I actually just filled out the tribe info to try to post on their forum as well.

Jenn-I am not sure how the candles would work out in my particular venue because the contract says no open flames... I'm not sure if candles count as a flame, I guess I don't have to light them. My wedding is actually next month-I totally procrastinated with the centerpieces because I just don't feel it. I thought of maybe paper lanterns on the table or maybe instead of. Cookie buffet table, just doing cookie trays for the centerpieces.

you can get clear glass holders (fish bowl) from a dollar tree, they also have battery t lights or candles you can use in the glass or even with no class.

I have a ten month old son, I'm using baby food jars, cleaning, painting good, and using gems with the battery t lights, tying ribbon around it. The only flowers are the bouquets and for the guys. no flowers else where.

    Good luck.

I posted these last week. Cute, inexpensive and super easy to do. Should go great with a June wedding and you can paint them to match your colors.

Here are mine. Pretty simple. Some silk leaves in a bowl with some candles. You could even go simpler with just the bowl with a few floating candles in it on top of a mirror or coloured table runner

I would do a hurricane vase with a large pillar candle and some rose petals sprinkled around the base. Keep it simple and inexpensive.

Or buy inexpensive flowers from Costco/Sams Club in plain white, you can get really great pricing on the flowers so it may not feel like a waste, vases can come from the Dollar Tree.

We are mixing candles with gold picture frames that I bought at goodwill. In one trip I got about 20 frames for $75 AND you can always repurpose the frames or let guests take them home.

A friend of mine did a small stack of books on each table.

The most recent wedding I went to did a tall hurricane vase filled with some color stones at the bottom, water, and then a floating candle on top. Then I think 4 tea lights surrounding the tall vase. No flowers, nice and simple.

Dollar Store! Buy a hurricane and a pillar candle. Then maybe some aqua or purple gems/sand for the inside, and some ribbon or something for the outside. Boom - you've got just a few bucks for each table, and candlelight will create a romantic atmosphere Smiley smile

I'm doing potted plants. No photo because I'm not making them until next September.

I don't like centerpieces either!!! I am really weird and made a mock up on Microsoft Word. I've already got most of this done/purchased with little time spent. I'm doing:

    - 2 x 2 foot fabric square in center (think a cloth napkin unfolded into a square); ironing under edges, no sewing

    - Small glass jar (think salsa jar, jam jar, glassware from Goodwill) with green grass or wheat grass grown inside and sticking out

    - Bought a lever punch in the shape of a heart (2") and cut hearts out of 10 sheets of paper to get 100 hearts. Will lay out on table on top of fabric square (think large confetti)

My venue has table numbers in frames I can use for free, so those will be on there too. Spending less than $30 on this for a 200-guest reception.

My friend did cheap wine glasses from the dollar store turned upside down. Inside was a fake flower bud and then she glued lace fabric on the bottom of the glass and added a candle on top. Super simple and easy to do. I'm renting my centerpieces and have a mix of lanterns, hurricane vases and 3 tiered vases filled with water and a floating candle on top.

My cousin had a tiered cupcake stand as her centerpiece. They were doing cupcakes instead of cake anyway.. double duty! The cookie idea is neat.
