@Centerpiece - question on babys breath care

MrsA, on August 17, 2015 at 10:40 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

Or anyone who has done this.....This is what I'm doing as part of the centerpieces, I'll also have a silver creamer with several flowers next to it. I plan on making this on Thursday, wedding is Sat. What do I need to do to make sure this stays just as fresh looking on Sat as it looks when I did it? I have 8 of these. The stems are being stuck in the green floral foam bouquet holders.

Well I had Baby's Breath for mine but they were just bundled up with a rubber band and placed in their containers with water. They were good for the wedding. I think Baby's Breath is hardy and would be able to stand being without water for a few days before they get nasty.

    BUT I'm no expert!

Sorry...I thought I had a picture of just the baby's breath vase, I had to upload the whole centerpiece mock up. Do I just keep the foam hydrated frequently and how frequently? Do I need to wait and do it closer to Sat?

I asked this on another post, but while we're here...the silver creamer. I was going to do these the night before, place some soaked floral foam in the creamer to help hold the flowers in place better, and then water (with food) about 1/3 while transporting then pour more in when we get their.

Thanks Jen. We are just having BB in the chapel and it will be bundles in containers, I figured they would be fine, but it's a nice relief to hear it validated.

I think babies breath is pretty hardy too. If you can keep it in a fridge or something, that will help it keep too. I had my babies breath arrive on Thursday from Costco, stuck them in the fridge right away, then did my bouquets, bouts, and centerpieces on Friday. So they sat out from Friday afternoon until the wedding Saturday night. They looked fine Smiley smile

When we did all the flowers for younger son's wedding........ we found a great trick for refrigeration.... the local convenience store cooler! We made friends with the manager and there is plenty of room behind the beverage shelves to hold buckets of stems. Just make sure you're using the cooler that doesn't have food in it. It was so easy to run back and forth the few blocks to get what we needed when we needed it and they were open late, cause it went a lot slower than expected... We stored the bp flowers there right up to 2 hours before the ceremony. Their centerpieces were plumosa and spregeri garland with 20 rosebuds around a huricane lantern on a mirror. I bought the little individual water vials to stick the roses in and then tucked them in the garland. I had to buy them in a bundle of 500! I still have 200-300 in a box in my basement........ anybody need some?????? Point is I didn't have to take the roses out until morning of the ceremony..... everything looked fresh cut. Amazing.

Why put them in a foam bouquet holder if they are centerpieces in a milk glass bud vase? Just put them in water in the bud vase and they'll do much better. They will be fine...as long as you keep them in an air conditioned room.

Do NOT put florals into a refrigerator. You know how your milk freezes sometimes? If your flowers freeze, they will be mushy brown and there is no saving them. Florists have special refrigerators with real temperature gauges and are humid.
