Centerpiece recipe- how many flowers??

Jennifer, on February 6, 2018 at 2:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

I am planning to DIY my wedding centerpieces and need advice on a flower recipe (how many stems of each type) for a 8inch compote container. I'm looking for a low arrangement that uses garden roses (3-5 to keep costs down), regular roses, spray roses, feather celosia and lollipop mums (see image, 2 inch blooms, single stem). As fillers, I am considering gomphrena, berries, dianthus, wax flowers, etc. as options. I also love the look of some hanging red amaranthus and using seeded and bonsai eucalyptus as the greens.

I'm thinking 3 garden roses, 24 regular roses, 5 spray roses stems, 4 feather celosia stems, 5 mums, 3 stems hanging amaranthus, 10 stems of fillers and 6 stems greens. Does this sound like too much? Not enough? Appreciate any advice!!! I'm trying to err on the side of extras just in case but also being budget conscious! Thanks!

I don’t have he time to sit and calculate the math for each flower but I do recommend even looking into sams club or costco for centerpieces! They’re low cost and no effort from you. They’re pre-made so you don’t have to arrange them yourself. Are you doing real flowers or faux? I know real flowers require the right temperature and need put into water immediately. You could also look into grocery stores. I’ve even seen some brides find the budget they’re willing to spend, contact a florist with the max budget you have and some inspiration photos and see what they can do for you too?

The easiest thing to do is to buy some flowers at your local store and practice. 24 roses sounds like way too many to me.

Yeah 24 roses will be the whole container - packed. I would say 5-6 will be more than enough with everything else you have going on, and that would still be on the safe side. I would go to the store or flower market and try to put one together. This is a LOT of really large blooms, depending on how big your garden roses will be.

How big are your tables? Mine are rather small and I am doing hydrangeas. Love them bc the blooms are so big and I will only need 3 per vase (mint julep cups).

Maybe get some fake flowers to do a test run? You sound like you have a ton of flowers but an 8 inch container is pretty large.
