Ayrial, on March 12, 2017 at 6:02 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 45

Been on wedding mission mode today! Did all my centerpiece! They came out wonderful, all they need is the beta fish.

ETA; no betta fish anymore.

Neat idea- but what will happen with all the betas after the wedding? Definitely cannot be just given away like centerpieces- they are living creatures that need responsible care. It irks me when people don't think of the animals. But I'm sure you have a responsible plan!

They are beautiful, and will be just as beautiful without the betta fish. Please don't use live creatures as decorations.

They are beautiful as is. Please don't start your marriage in such a cruel way as including living creatures into decorations.

I can only wonder what would happen to them after the wedding.

I'm so jealous that I didn't think of this. I'd use fake fish though so you don't risk anything happening to them or have to worry about rehoming them. Still a really neat idea!

Please don't use real fish, it is cruel. It will likely be a high stress situation and they could die. How would you feel knowing that fish died because of your decorative vision and guests had to stare at dead fish all night. Eta: Those don't even look big enough to safely and comfortably hold the beta fish.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this is wrong. Please rethink the fish, OP.

Yeah I'd be horrified if I went to a wedding there were real fish in a centerpiece. I don't know much about beta fish care but those vases don't look like they have a lot of space for a fish, especially with the plants in there.

I have an aquarium with a beta and a pleco (sucker fish). They need at least a 5 gallon tank, a filter and a heater to live happy and healthy lives. I'm guessing your guests won't all know that or be willing/able to get these things from the pet store when they take them home. Please don't put beta fish in your centerpieces! Plus, fish can carry salmonella and I would honestly be grossed out by a fish on the table that I'm eating at. Beautiful creatures, just don't want them anywhere near my food.

When my cousin got married she decided to use live fish in her centerpieces..it was awful. She also asked my brother (who was 10 at the time) after arriving at the reception to walk around with a net to take out fish if they die, and yes a few of them did. I have no idea what they did to them after but it was bad. Please don't do this.

Thank you guys for your information. I have researched everything about beta fish. Beta fish at petco live in smaller containers. But the people at petco said they have plenty of room in this vases. The vases are bigger then the picture is showing.

As of after the wedding they will be donated to a local school that wants to have them as classroom pets.

I wouldn't do this out of cruelty. I love fish animals. I made sure I got all my information I needed and made sure they were safe.

In addition to everything posted above, beta fish in tanks like this can smell really really bad if not perfectly taken care of within a day or so. Do you really want to take the chance of your guests smelling this as they eat dinner?

A simple Google search can give you examples - https://www.google.com/search?q=betta+fish+smells+bad&oq=beta+fish+sm&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l3.7594j0j4&client=ms-android-verizon&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

This is a bad idea. Please don't use fish as centrepieces.

So your vision outweighs the potential risk? Welp, I truly hope none of these fish die because it. Also, as a guests I would feel really uncomfortable staring at live fish while I ate.

I like the way your centerpieces look but, the whole live fish thing would make me uncomfortable if I was at the wedding. Not only is it cruel, and you're not at all thinking about how it will effect the animal, what if it dies? What if it decides to use the bathroom while the guests are eating (fish poop too), what if it starts to smell? You can always use fake fish or just have the centerpieces as is.

Also, you said you're giving them to a school? Will they all be in the same tank together? Because if so, beta fish can be very aggressive and fight with each other/kill each other.

    OP, those look fantastic!

UO, while I would never use live animals in my wedding, I think your plan for what to do with them after is good. Just make sure they are separated for stransport. Betas can be aggressive and will actually beat themselves against the glass if they feel their territory is threatened by neighbors. I suggest a sheet or paper between them if you have them side by side.

Your centerpieces are fine as is. How are you controlling the temperature and filtering the water in the vases? It seems like to have a bit more research to do in regards to using animal/fish as props and decorations.

Definitely don't do this. As Nicole pointed out, they need bigger tanks and heaters. Do you know if the school has those for every fish? They will die within days if not sooner in those small, unheated tanks.

I've never seen fake fish? Do they float/swim around like real fish.

For the school I was going to purchase betta tanks

ETA : I have not purchased the fish yet
