I have 2 beta fish. They love small spaces. They live in cups at the pet stores. They don't smell at all (unless you never change their water. They will be fine for a few hours. They are tough little fish. I really like that you are donating them to the school. The kids will love them.

Betas don't require heaters, filters, or large tanks. However, without the filter, their water needs to be changed weekly. If a teacher is taking on that responsibility, that's none of anyone else's business. Do some research before jumping to conclusions.

I have that tank right now for my own betta fish which I have had for two years and it's not heated? He is doing just fine. This is what petco showed me

Please don't use live fish. It is cruel regardless of your plans of what to do with them afterwards.

My friends cousin had live fish as centerpieces. Although I wasn't at the wedding I was told that some drunk fool thought it would be hilarious to pour alcohol into their centerpiece to see "how drunk the fish would get" (spoiler alert, it died) and another container was knocked over accidentally. I imagine that fish died too.

A wedding centerpiece isn't the appropriate environment for live fish and I'm not convinced they'll all make it to this school safely afterwards. If you want water and plants and rocks as your centerpieces great. Floating candles are lovely too. Please reconsider the fish.

Maybe you keep your houses warm enough. Beta are tropical fish and need tropical temperature water.

For all those saying "it will be fine" please see @Mariah's comment who actually experienced this first hand in which some of the fish DID DIE!

Why don't you just fill them with water and stick a floating candle on top? They're fine as is.

When I looked at the picture I thought they were nice until you mentioned the beta fish. I'm not a fan of animals as props. Please keep in mind that fish can be easily stressed.

OP, instead of fish why don't you use fake jelly fish? They float around and look fairly realistic.

My theme is fish. Jelly fish wouldn't go with it. My ring bearer is walking down with a fishing pole. My cake topper is fish related. Just tried to keep going with the theme

    Do not use Betta fish!

Ayrual- I am a teacher and I have had Betta fish as a class pet. After a few died, I talked to a fish person and found out Bettas don't do well in loud environments.

I think that the vases will look beautiful without the fish and will still go with your theme perfectly

OP, your current set up with a floating candle on top would look really pretty.
