Centerpieces...love them, don't care for them?

What are you doing for centerpieces, or what did you do? What is the best centerpiece you have seen and the worst? I'm not sure what we're doing. I'm not sure what we're doing. I don't really care for them, but I think the table will look plain and empty without them. FH and I keep jokingly telling people that we're just going to get buckets with ice and beer for the centerpieces lol. People actually keep saying they love that idea though. o_O

As for worst centerpiece, it has to go to these twig things that were in glass bowls. I think the idea they had was good, but got lazy in making them. There were jewels hanging from them, but you could really see the glue that was on the jewels. Strings of glue were on the branches too. Best centerpiece, I've liked all the ones I've seen with fresh flowers and tea light candles.

I really like this thread, lovely options! I haven't figured out centerpieces yet - actually planning on talking to my aunt who owns a greenhouse about it over the holidays. I think we'll do small lanterns with tea lights and either:

    - some single blooms in mismatched vases

    - small square vases full of hydrangeas.

    or

    - something with lots of greenery

Rusticbride I love the pearls in the vase! It looks so nice!! Thanks for the ideas, I'm really liking the first one. My aunt is really crafty and always makes wooden boxes for things so I'm going to see if she's up for making them for mine!

I think for centerpieces you have to have SOMETHING there. Centerpieces are a big topic of conversation at weddings. They add a nice touch.

We're having the reception in a rustic barn and are DIYing practically everything. Here's my inspiration. My dad is cutting the log slabs and I am collecting jars to put the flowers in. I think for flowers we're doing white roses and hydrangeas.

Don't care either way, and certainly said, after attending a wedding, "And weren't the centerpieces amazing?!" Since everyone seems tight on money, I'd skip them and just toss around flower petals or glitter.

We are getting a really great deal on flowers (a girl at my parents' church works for a wholesale flower place and is in training to be a florist and does amazing work and is doing ours for a really great price) and I LOVE tea and FH and family is British... soooo we are doing floral arrangements in tea pots with three tea cups with floating tealight candles around the tea pot. The tea pots and cups have been found at charity shops and through people just donating them so they won't match, but I like that that each table will be a bit different. The flowers will all be yellow with some blues and maybe greys thrown in.

Sort of like the picture attached.

@kristen e. Mine will be very similar to yours!! We didn't want anything to tall and I'm not a huge flower person so we are gonna have simple flowers. I've also seen beautiful picture frames with old pictures of couples that have been together a long time in your family on top of antique type books. Like grandparents, great grandparents, parents. I thought that was incredible.

Log slabs (got a crap ton of them for $10!) covered in moss, with wine bottles (our vineyard offered to make labels for them for FREE!) with photos of our friends and family...candle...wildflowers. My initial inspiration were these photos...cost factored in a LOT...plus, our tables are very ornate themselves, but small (4 tops made from wine barrels) so we did not want too much.

I love the little gourds and candles on the long trays! Our wedding is in September...and a lot of fall theme...but our tables are too small for such!

This is our inspiration pic. The hydrangeas will be green, the Lillie's will be orange and the pink stalky thing will be replaced with blue delphinium. I'm planning to put a band of coordinating ribbon around the center of the vase.

The only difference between mine and the photo is I will have royal blue petals instead of pink. Smiley smile

These were ours. We wanted something, but didn't want to spend a fortune on things our guests probably wouldn't pay a lot of attention to, anyway. After the wedding, we sold most of them, but kept a few that we still use on our dining room table.

@Shannon: We got them from Save-On-Crafts, but they no longer seem to have that exact design. If you're searching for them online, they are called pedestal glass candle holders.

We're doing what the venue offers for free: an ivory rose in a vase and a votive. I wish I could say that I care about centerpieces, but I don't. Many that have been posted are gorgeous though.
