Ceremony at venue and reception at our home?

Jessica, on July 8, 2021 at 11:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
We are having trouble planning our wedding because we just purchased a home and need to save $ (hello Marriage or Mortgage show on Netflix lol). We’ve had ideas to have our ceremony at a park and then reception at our home after, but no park we’ve visited felt right or met our expectations.

Now my head is going into another direction of having just the ceremony at a venue, and then have guests drive 20 mins to our home for the reception. Do you think this option is inconvenient to guests and would make them overly judgmental? They would be starting the event in a nice location and then driving to our not-so-fancy home for a celebration after. We can’t host both ceremony and reception at our home because the yard is too small. It would also not include dancing; just food, music, and speeches.
We are okay being non-traditional, we just want to be able to have a nice event with all of our loved ones.
Thanks for your input!

Take a look at at eventective.com or the local parks department website under venue rentals. Nothing fits your criteria? It is would be very inconvenient to have the ceremony at a park and then drive to your home. Is there room for parking on your street? Why not have both at one location as is very common?

Thanks I will take a look at the website! There is lots of parking in our neighborhood to have a reception at our home, but it would be hard to host both ceremony and reception there because our yard is too small. If we did it this way, we’d need help rearranging the whole yard with chairs and tables, then redecorate for the reception after our ceremony which sounds hectic.

How are you having a reception there if your yard is too small? You will need tables and chairs to accommodate each guest. Anyways,. I think finding a venue just to host a ceremony is going to be a little bit of a challenge because venues typically make most of their money at the reception. I also would be confused as a guest if you had the ceremony at a park, but not the reception.

The yard has enough room to place a few tables and chairs, and I know some guests are going to also want to be indoors. Our whole first floor + yard would be open to guests. It would not be a formal reception, but more of a casual party with food, drinks and music. There are lots of venues near us who have ceremony-only packages which would save us a lot of money. There is the option to do both at a park, but some nicer ones cost just as much as a venue. The ones that are more affordable have portable restrooms which I’m not sure guests would enjoy Smiley sad
