Ceremony in a park

Jessi, on June 2, 2023 at 9:08 PM Posted in Planning 1 4

Hi!

We are planning a small casual wedding and looking to have the ceremony at a park near our reception venue. Is it truly as simple as getting a permit and an officiant? Of course we can add on decor if we want but we would have to set up and tear down. We will definitely have a photographer as well. But I am wondering if it's truly that simple or if I am missing something. it seems too good to be true haha.

Thanks in advance!

Seating? If you’re having a ceremony, you’ll need a place for people to sit. Even if the ceremony itself is brief, people will arrive ahead of time.

If you mean by "permit" that you have gotten an area reserved and the city has indicated all requirements for that permit, then you just have to comply with those.

We have a city-owned venue that requires payment for security staff and maybe standby fireman/medic personnel. We aren't using that venue but those are some of the details involved with it.

Yes, you get the necessary paperwork from the city after you visit their website and decide if you want an open grassy area or a covered building rental. The building rental usually includes tables and chairs and most often has a full kitchen. They are very clear in the contract what is allowed and what is not. It really is that simple.

The minimum things you need for a small park wedding would be:

    Marriage certificate

Officiant (make sure they are certified unless you have a "self uniting" marriage certificate)

Permission to be in the park

seating for guests (even if that is just picnic tables under a gazebo!)

Things that are low budget that I think are worth having:

Some kind of drinks (water, wine/beer, soda, etc)

Flowers (for you, makes it feel more bridal!)

Food (chips and dip, sandwiches, etc)

    Speaker and music

Things I think are worth splurging a little on in this case, but aren't needed!

    Photo/video

An arch or backdrop for the ceremony (can repurpose as a photo area for guests) makes it feel more "wedding"

Card box (highly recommend for all outdoor weddings)
