The catholic church I am getting married in told us that we have to have flowers in front of the alter, the podium where the readings will be done and in front of the Blessed Mary statue.

That is all that we are allowed to do

This is really a question to also ask your church. Many of them have very strict restrictions on what can be brought in and what must be left there.

You may end up having to leaving any flowers you bring to the church and not take them with you to the reception.

Also, you usually have to clean up any other decorations you bring such as pew bows, etc.

We're going very basic for the ceremony. Aisle runner, flower petals, arch, and a few spaced out pew markers.

I personally think your money is best spent elsewhere, at your reception, bouquets, etc.

As you said, churches are already beautiful in their own right, and don't need decorating (and most have some rules about this anyways).

We just did two very small arrangements of ivory hydrangeas at the front by the altar, and that was it.

We were lucky-our church had amazing colors to begin with. But we added pew bows, paid a bit extra to have the candles placed as well as flowers down the aisle. We skipped the runner, it was getting caught in my dress train while testing the walking..I'd make sure to doublecheck that issue for you as well to insure you don't trip if you have a long train!

Our church allowed us to only have an arrangement for the altar; no other decorations were allowed. Talk to your church to see what options you have.

    Definitely ask about decorating restrictions!

We kept it simple and just paid extra for pew candles and had two floral arrangements up front!

For the stage, we had two floral arrangements on pedestals.

It wasn't a church, but we decorated the synagogue where we were married. But I agree with others, you need to figure out what the church's rules are. We consulted the rabbi every step of the way.

I'd ask your church. We looked into the church near us and one near my parents. Both told us different things. One said we couldn't move anything and only bring flowers, while the other said we could move a few things and do flowers.
