Ceremony Logistics

Jason, on February 25, 2018 at 9:36 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5

We are having a small, non-religious outdoor wedding. Each of us will have one best person -- no others in the wedding party. We are thinking about having friends from the audience (not the best persons) deliver a short, sentimental reading. In terms of logistics, does it make more sense to have the readers stand and deliver their reading from their seats, or for them to come up to the front and face the audience? Is it weird for the readers to stand from their seats? I think that most weddings I've been to in a church have the readers come up and read from the lectern, but this is an outdoor non-religious wedding, and there will not be a formal lectern. Our thought is that the readers can be assigned seats on the aisles, so that they can easily go up the short aisle and stand in front of everyone. Advice!?

Thoughts about logistics?

I think you should have them come up and say it in front of everyone versus from their seat. If it’s from their seat then people need to crane their necks to watch who’s talking and whatnot.

I was a reader in a Quaker ceremony and stood and read from my seat. It was nice how organic it felt with people standing and saying their part. If time in a concern, having people read from their seat is faster than having them go up front.

The readers should come to the front so they can face the whole crowd, otherwise they’ll have their backs to someone trying to hear them. To keep things moving smoothly it would be best to sit them right in the front or along an aisle

I think you could go either way. I had a religious ceremony and placed my readers (which were parents) in the first rows. They stood and faced the congregation when they did their reading. Honestly thinking back, I'm not sure why we didn't have them go up to the altar, but it worked.

Agreed!!! Have the reader stand where people can see him, if you'd like to assigned the reader a seat easier to get to point B and back it will be less risky for a fall and be less the time.
