Ceremony music....recorded music

MrsA, on May 18, 2015 at 4:12 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

I'm just starting to think about the church music. I don't really want to hire anyone to play during the ceremony. I was quoted $250 for an hours time for someone to play. Is anyone using an Ipod or other recording device and playing through wireless speakers? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Does the church not have a sound system? Just play a cd or whatever through their speakers?

I wish! No, it's a small church in a historic village. I really curious if there are a lot of people who do use recorded music instead of an instrumentalist.

My FSIL did at her wedding a couple years ago, but she played it through the church's sound system, it sounded fine. If you have speakers your thinking of using, take them to the church and do a trial run. Other option, does the church have a piano or organ? If so hire the church pianist, or a local music student to play. Ask around the schools, find a local music teacher and ask for their best student.

I'm most likely doing recorded music. I believe it's fairly common. Unfortunately for me, my family is the "music family" so we've played everyone else's wedding, but obviously can't play mine!

Same argument as "it's only 20 minutes" for officiants. It's not only an hour.

250.00 is a bargain for an hours worth of live music. While I see recorded music at a lot of my outta church venues, I think in a church you really need live.

I think it would cost you at least $250.00 to rent the equipment you'd need in order to use an iPod to play to an entire church.

$250 seems like a pretty good deal. Do you have a family member or friend who you feel comfortable asking to play?

Yeah my rental equipment for DIY music at the reception is $250 including the delivery. My ceremony music is $350. I also agree with Celia, you wouldn't want your 20 mins to be the first time they play your requested music.

I hear ya Celia and I realize the $250 is a deal and more goes into it. I'm in that IDGAF mode and really just want to figure out something simple to do the job. The church has a total of 16 pews. I have an ipod station. I was thinking I could just buy a couple of wireless speakers and be done with it. I'm only doing one song for the whole procession. And I really don't see taking up someones time for that.

I actually have a cousin who plays cello and went to Julliard. I just don't want to ask him. I'm not a fan of asking family or friends who will be my guest to also "work".

Wow! That's a family connection! I get what your saying, but if it's really just for the pro/recessional, I think you should ask him. Worst he can say is no

We are considering doing this, but our church is a lot bigger than this so I'm not 100% sure it would work. Smiley sad

Yet another thing that my cousin's wedding planner completely neglected to do was take care of music for the ceremony. We ended up arranging music on a laptop and ran to Radio Shack the morning of while the bride was getting her hair done and just used the laptop for ceremony music. No one noticed and it was a small church, so it filled the space just fine.

You should totally ask your cousin to play! I'm sure he'd be honored, and it would only be for a short time. Then, you can spend on a nice little thank you gift for him, rather than on speakers...

I'm doing the same thing... literally, old historic chapel built in the 1880's or something like that. I am getting wireless speakers and hooking up a media device.

How are you going to cue the music though? Someone is going to have to work the Ipod. I would say if you really dont want to pay someone at least rent the equipment.

I'm not usually a fan of friendors, but I bet he would love to do it, and it would be lovely. You can thank him at the reception, get him a gift card for someplace he'd love and the problem is solved. It's a little different in this case because he will be done 'working' right after the ceremony.
