Ceremony Officiant

Brittany, on March 3, 2020 at 3:42 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7

So my fiances best man has a family member that got her officiant license and offered to do our wedding. She has only ever done one wedding and I am a little nervous she may lack experience. But the professional we liked was $1,500! Has anyone ever had a friend/family get ordained and perform their ceremony? What do they really do for you, other than read from a book? lol

They actually do A LOT! Our officiant actually wrote our ceremony and they set the pacing of the ceremony.

I don't see anything wrong with a family friend doing it for you as long as you have input and they don't rush through everything.

We had my BF get ordained and do our ceremony. She wrote the entire service and ran it by us. Luckily we loved it and didn’t anything. She spent a lot of time coming up with the perfect things to say to make it personal.

If you want you can also just find templates online that the officiant can follow or for you to write yourself. I pretty much just wrote my officiant’s script

My cousin got ordained for our wedding so he had no prior experience but he was amazing! He had a good balance of humor and seriousness and I loved having someone who knew us personally marry us. Our venue was all inclusive and fantastic so we didn't have to worry about pace or anything else. My cousin just wrote his speech and that was it, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

MY FSIL got married last May, and their uncle, who they are very close with, officiated the ceremony. It was very nice and personal because he is well loved by the family, and he knows their relationship very well. My fiancé and I were struggling to find an officiant, and his sister offered to do it for us if we wanted that. She got ordained online, and she is very excited to work on the ceremony. She is writing it and will send me a copy when she's done to make sure I'm ok with it, which I'm sure I will be. I think it is really beautiful to have someone you love and are close with perform your ceremony. It adds a personal touch and is more meaningful because that person knows your relationship better than someone you are paying.

I do also like the idea of having someone we know, who knows us do the wedding. I guess I was just caught up on the fact that she is not a "professional" ha ha
