Ceremony Only Videographer

Michelle, on May 17, 2021 at 12:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
I have recently started considering a videographer for our wedding, but they can be so pricey! My FH is pretty indifferent about it, but I’m worried I will regret not having one. One was recommended to me and they have a reasonable hourly rate. Has anyone just done a videographer for the ceremony and maybe the beginning of the reception (I really just want our ceremony, first dance, etc captured)?
Also, I have never attended a wedding with a videographer and I don’t want it to feel like they are in the way and I can’t enjoy the day. I also don’t like being the center of attention as is, so a part of me worries a videographer will add more pressure to the day. Any advice is welcome!

That's actually not a bad idea to only have them for ceremony and beginning of reception if they're for a reasonable price!

I have not found a videographer that charges hourly! Most of them are a flat rate for a minimum amt of time so that's awesome if you were able to find one! I have mine coming for prep, ceremony and first half of reception to capture speeches, first dance, cake cutting.

I wouldn't worry too much about them being in the way. They are trained professionals & super stealthy. All of the weddings that I have been too, I barely noticed them!

Do you or someone you know have a GoPro type video camera? You can set it on a tripod and and film what you want. Also check thumbtack.com or thebash.com

I highly recommend hiring a videographer! Our wedding videos was the best thing we took away from our day, besides getting married of course. If you don't want to pay for the entire day, I think having them for the ceremony and the first 30 minutes of your reception would be perfect! You will definitely capture the most important moments.

So I was in the exact same boat a few months back. We are trying to keep costs down, and even though EVERYONE said to get one, the costs just didn't work out for me. So we decided to hire a ceremony only. He is delivering us two videos, one "sizzle reel" of the ceremony, all edited up, and then the full 25ish mins of ceremony. way better pricing and honestly, I didn't feel like I needed video of guests eating or dancing.

in regards to being seen, a good videographer (or photographer) should be minimally noticed. and they should also stay out of each others way!

Thank you! That’s pretty much what I want one to film for us too. I think photos are fine for dinner and dancing. I was more worried about them being in the way, since we are having a smaller wedding, about 60ish people.

Yeah the more I think about it, I think I would regret not getting one. I definitely want the first look, ceremony, and first dance captured

The one I found will do a short film and then you get the raw footage which I think will be plenty for us. And I agree about the eating and dancing, photos should be enough for those parts. I’m only worried about them being “in the way” since we are having a small wedding. Do you think it’s worth it for a 60 ish person wedding?

I totally think it's worth it, epically if the price is reasonable for the hourly rate! I don't know that Id spend a few thousand dollars, but less than $1000 is totally worth it to me!

I originally set out for raw, ceremony footage only, as it’s SO expensive. But, a month ago, I decided to upgrade to cinematic edits and they will be coming from 4-7 shooting footage. We will have the ceremony, parts of photos/cocktail hour, first dances, and cake cutting all before dinner. I was a little nervous about cutting the cake before dinner but I want it on camera, and it’s my wedding, so anything goes! If I were you, I would splurge on it !

We are doing a videographer for pre-ceremony & ceremony (3 hrs total- we didn’t feel the need to capture any reception since our guests will be able to record). This will be my 2nd wedding. I don’t remember ever seeing the videographer at my 1st, but apparently he was there lol.
