Ceremony & Reception at same venue?

Andrea, on September 2, 2018 at 5:27 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

Hi!

For those beautiful individuals having their ceremonies and the receptions at the same venue (e.g barn, cottage, banquet hall, backyard, etc) How did cocktail hour work for you?

1. Did guests follow your wedding party to see you guys getting pictures taken, following the ceremony?

2. What was the wait time for the venue staff to "flip" the scene?

3. Any other useful information? Smiley smile

I’m having ceremony in the same place as reception. During cocktail hour that’s when I’ll Be taking pictures. The guests will be in another room for cocktail hour. As the guest are having cocktail they will be flipping the room from ceremony to reception. Cocktail is an hour so they’ll have an hour to flip the room.

We are doing ours in the same place, a backyard. We will be taking photos at a nearby canyon/hiking trail. While we are there, we will be asking the guests to move their own chairs to the tables, then they have the backyard for cocktail hour while we take photos. We will already have games and tables and everything set up, so they can go straight to it.

Ours will be in the same venue. Cocktail hr will follow immediately after the ceremony & guests will just go straight there...it is in a separate room & the hallway. the actual ceremony is in a different room that extends to a patio, so there won’t be anything to rearrange. Some of our floral arrangements will be moved from the ceremony to the reception area, but that’s abt it.

If it rains however, we will have to get married where the reception will be. Guests will just leave that area & go to the hallway & separate room for cocktail hour.

Our ceremony and reception were at one venue. Ceremony was outside. After the ceremony, guests went to the cocktail hour on the patio. During cocktail hour, staff took all the chairs inside into the reception area. During the cocktail hour, we were taking pro pics and none of the guests followed us as they were busy with cocktail hour open bar and appetizers and photo booth and live music. After cocktail hour everyone went inside for reception and we joined them after pics.

    1. Guest are going to play lawn games while we take pictures, there will also be light snacks to give them something to do while they wait.
    2. Ceremony and Reception are in different rooms so there is no flip time. But I would ask your venue what they think it will take to flip the room.
    3. Just make sure your guests have food and a space to mingle while they are waiting to go into the reception. I've been to weddings where this wasn't the case, and we all got very anxious waiting.

I haven't had my wedding yet, but we're planning on doing our ceremony around 2:00 (about a half hour long) and then doing photos after. Dinner to start at 5 or 5:30.

We are doing photos during the cocktail hour. No need to flip because the ceremony will be outside so everything will be set up already. I would keep the reception doors closed except that it may be cold outside so people can just roam as they please until the buffet opens.

No one followed. We had the DJ ask that only the people called joined us outside for pictures. It worked perfect.

We had the bar open and finger food at the back of the room so people would mingle there.

Our cocktail hours was really only 30 minutes. Since we had 75 guests, it took 10 minutes to flip the room because the tables were already set up. Just had to take the chair for the ceremony away.

As far as I know everything went fine. Just talk to your venue about how they feel it works best.
