Ceremony/ Reception In The Same Room?

I've been to one wedding (gorgeous wedding by the way) where the guests were already seated at tables...the ceremony and reception were held in the same room...I thought it made for a smooth transition and all...I am considering doing this but I want some opinions and advice...

I'm doing mine in the same room as well but the staff will be flipping it. To me it's important to have a defined ceremony space so ... I'm still trying to figure that part out totally

I am having an all-in-one. We liked the money saving aspect. No transportation, or second venue... We save about $2000! Works fo me honey chile! Lol! N I'm gonna let my Planner work things out with the theme(fire and ice) coming to life around it.

I think this is a great idea. I went to one wedding where this happened and it was awesome! We were seated at our tables when they got married, and other than some quick photos outside we never had to leave!

One wedding I went to was like this but in a courtyard instead of a room. The ceremony was set up as usual with the rows of chairs. Once it was over, all of the guests went to a different area of the venue for a group picture and cocktail hour. During this time, the venue staff set up the courtyard for the reception. The tables were already put together off to the side in a different area so they basically just moved them in carefully.

I didn't get a good picture of the reception set up but you can still tell the difference.

My only concern would be at some guests like to sit at the front of the ceremony while others like the back. By having them pre-sat, you have picked their spots for them.

I was going to do this to save money but was not sure if it would look tacky, guess not. But then I bit the bullet and booked a church. Now I wish I would have done this it would have saved a nice chunk of change.

I have officiated ceremonies inside the reception venue. Sometimes the room got flipped after the ceremony. Sometimes the guests sat at their tables for the ceremony. Both ways worked well -- no worries.

Yea I think that could work just fine, you just need like an outside cocktail hour to give them time to change it over to a reception style room!

@Pezzy...I was concerned about that too...I might do what the ladies suggested and put the ceremony floor on the dance floor...

My photographer shot a wedding that did this before. I'm going to mimic it if it decides to rain and I can't have my ceremony outside.

The wedding he shot looked awesome. They hand long tables all facing in an angle. Dance floor and alter were at the front so the direction of the tables kind of made an arrow pointing to the alter (I hope this makes sense lol). Anyway - because of this, all they did were turn around the chairs on the back facing sides of the tables so that they face the alter, and people on the other side of the table were basically sitting at the table facing the right direction. No need to move or adjust tables.

I reeeeaaalllly hope this all made sense LOL

I found the pics. I think it looked beautiful. He told me that the first 3 rows of chairs were the reserved seating.

It can be done beautifully. Where I am getting married there is an outdoor ceremony space then guests move indoors to the reception. Well if it decides to rain, guests will just be seated where they would be for the reception and the ceremony would be in the same room. I wasn't a huge fan of this until I seen it for myself. I think it is very convenient for guests too!

My husband is a professional wedding DJ & MC. He recently had a ceremony and reception in the same room, and it was gorgeous! It was at a really modern art museum, with high ceilings, stone flooring, a long wall of nothing but windows which allowed for natural light. They had a few tables reserved for immediate family and close friends, and everyone else chose their own seat. The tables were round, which allowed for a better "flow" so the dance floor was not compromised. They didn't have to move any tables. My husband provided ceremony services, such as the sound system, wireless microphones and a headset for the officiant. After the bride and groom were announced as husband and wife, the wedding party and B&G all made their exit to the adjacent room that they entered from for the ceremony. Guests mingled for approx. 10 min or so at their tables, and my husband announced to grab some hors d'oeuvres and a drink if desired. Then came the fun part.... The Grand Entrance!!

During the planning process with this particular couple, the groom told us that he really liked the Chicago Bulls Theme Song, so my husband did a whole announcer/basketball theme Grand Intro. The guests didn't know when the wedding party was going to enter back into the room, and we didn't tell anyone. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, my husband starts playing the intro song..( I was in the other room making sure everyone was lined up in the correct order, and video taping them) The faces of their guests were priceless... They were like.."What is going on" He personalized their intro by adding facts about each wedding party member that we got from the B & G during the planning. It was really great and unexpected!! I have a video of it, but the guys stood in front of the camera on my husbands DJ table, so the view isn't so great, but at least you can see the room layout and the whole dramatic effect it had on their entrance back into the same room they just left from 10 min. prior
