Ceremony sound system

Alyssa, on March 1, 2022 at 10:59 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 7

We are having an outdoor ceremony in June with about 140 people. Our DJ recently contacted us asking if we wanted to add a ceremony sound system (3 mics & speakers) for $500. After researching a bit, it looks like we're going to have to add mics if we want our guests to actually hear anything going on.

My question is, is $500 about average for ceremony sound? I realize there's extra setup, teardown, etc, but it's going to be for like 20 minutes! I'm just so exhausted by all these little extras that keep piling up.

    I had the same problem!

you could look at local rental companies - i did that and it was like $250-300 on average but of course that doesn't include the set up and it's another thing for you to worry about.

the OTHER thing you could do is just buy some off amazon or whatever - they actually aren't that expensive for an ok one surprisingly! again, it's another thing to add on BUT if you think you'd actually use it for future events like if you have parties at home, etc then it's ok to.

for me i ended up just borrowing one of my groomsman's. if you're a part of a church, or your work place has one that they're willing to lend out, etc then you could try that too.

Is it in the same location as the reception? If so that's kind of crazy to me as ours was included at no extra charge.

Oh wow, I’ll have to double check with mine, I surely believe it should be included. I would just get another DJ for that hr they only charge roughly $100 an hr, it would be cheaper

Yep, it's at the same location. I agree, it seems so excessive for something pretty necessary!

Unfortunately, we had to go with this DJ as part of the deal with the venue. It seemed like a good deal at the time, & honestly I was overwhelmed at that point & was grateful about not having to look into more vendors. Now I'm afraid we're getting ripped off.

I will definitely look into just having another vendor come in for just the ceremony. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking $500 was excessive!

For whatever reason, this piece is always so expensive. I don’t know if it’s due to the cost of their equipment or what, but it seems excessive.
