Ceremony Walk

Katy, on February 6, 2024 at 4:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

So we already have our song picked. I have 2 bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen. The song, it's about 3 min 22 seconds. I'm anxious about how we're all going to walk down the aisle! It feels long for few people to walk down to but I already paid for the song recording. My groom mentioned he'd prefer to already be standing there before guests sit down. Any suggestions on how we can do this to where I finish walking down by the end of the song so we don't all awkwardly stand there and wait for it to end??Smiley ups

This is the exact purpose of why rehearsals are done and should not be skipped. You practice not only where people stand but them walking in to the actual music.

As for the length, a dj is your best bet to get this right and many offer ceremony services. Unless you are marrying in a grand cathedral that holds 500-1000 guests minimum, the average aisle song is 45 seconds to a minute. That includes walking slowly, which also needs to be practiced. A dj can shorten the song but the average person doesn’t have the musical experience to know where to trim it.

Do you have access to your venue? If so, practice walking down the aisle to see how long each person will take. Then you can divide out the song according to how long each person has to walk down the aisle. When you play the song, make note of each time that the next person needs to start walking. Then at the rehearsal you can practice showing each person what portion of the song they need to start walking down the aisle. Make sure you practice it multiple times, so everyone knows exactly what lyric they need to start walking on. Don’t worry if there’s a little extra music at the end. A DJ can always fade the music out once everyone is at the altar.
