Ceremony/Reception Same Place-Debating on Limo Service

msmerlo, on March 5, 2017 at 8:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

HI Everyone,

As a lot of you are in the same situation here is my issue. Our ceremony & reception are in the same place as well. We haven't decided yet if we are getting ready at the venue or our parents house.

We don't want to drive ourselves there or have anyone in the wedding party drive either.

Essentially we would like to have a car drive us to the wedding and than home but we don't want to spend the money on a limo.

Any suggestions?

I think it would cost a lot of money if you had the limo or car the entire time of the wedding. If you do choose to have your bridal party ride in a limo or bus with you, at least have their cars at the venue so they can drive themselves home later. I would hate to be stranded after a wedding that I was in because my car wasn't available to me. Plus, when the reception is over, I'm sure you and fh will want to be alone at that point. Hope this helps!!!!

I am not quite sure what you are looking for here....These are your options:

    1) Everyone drives to the venue.

    2) everyone does not drive to the venue which means you have to pay a service to take you there and home.

I could be mistaken, but I do not think there is such a thing as free transportation...I mean you even have to pay for public transportation.

ETA: agree with Celia. Uber/Taxi would be your cheapest option if you don't want to pay for a limo service...

Uber/Lyft are awesome for this kind of thing. My own mom is hounding me about setting up shuttle service between the venue and the hotel where we will have a room block.

For my friend's wedding last year, they rented a big- a$$ yellow school bus to transport the bridal party from ceremony venue, to pictures, to the reception. Not my style, but hey you asked for different options!

I agree that limos are costly/a waste of money. I haven't seen a limo used at a wedding since 2010. Oddly enough, they sprang for bridal party limos and the quality/quantity of guest hosting, was one of the worst we've ever seen.

So we had our ceremony & reception at different places, but I didn't want to pay for the limo for the whole night either! We decided to do point to point service, which is something many limo companies offer. Basically the limo picked us up and drove us from the ceremony to the reception.

We talked to our BP ahead of time and asked them what they'd prefer- to drive to and from on their own or to do the limo & then be responsible for finding a ride afterwards. They ALL chose limo & then find their own ride home- all of them either had family (our younger siblings) or friends who were going to be at the wedding and could give them a ride home, and they all had access to Uber as well. To us, it was important to check with our BP before making a decision for everyone. But if they're on board, I'd suggest looking into point to point service. For 14 of us in the limo and about a 20 minute ride it cost $150 (not including tip).

Do Uber Black/XL you will get luxury car service without the price tag. Limos are a big waste of money and little tacky to me. They were cool like 10yrs ago. Those who still use it today is more for comfort, they do comfortably fit a big wedding party.
