Chair Cover Question

Tiffany, on June 22, 2018 at 11:53 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

So, chair covers are not optional for me lol. The venue is beautiful but the banquet chairs they have are not and renting different ones is pricey. The problem is, aside from being ugly, they are also square-topped. I can find round-topped chair covers at a reasonable price every where, but the square-topped ones are much harder or really expensive. The other option is universal chair covers. Less pricey than square-topped ones but more than round-topped. I have found some, but the websites are all out of China and less than favorably reviewed. My question is, has anyone ever used a round-topped chair cover on a square-topped chair? Were you able to pin the sides in and call it a day or was it a lot of work or just did not work at all? These are the ones I like: https://www.cvlinens.com/economy-polyester-banquet-chair-cover-ivory-p-8913.htmland these are the chairs we have (without the cover) http://simplyelegantchaircovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/table1.jpg. Price is a real concern here so any help is appreciated. I have seen some photos were it looks like they used round covers and pinned them back but I can't find any details or instructions.

The photo below kind of looks like they used round covers but I am not sure. This is a photo from the actual venue so these are the actual chairs.

round-top covers on a square chair?Chair Cover Question 1

Thanks!

My venue is like the exact same situation. Super pretty with poopy chairs! They also showed us a way to do round chair covers and found them in to make them fit a square. I think it's fine. Your chairs are such a minor detail. This will make it look nicer but obv won't be perfect. But also for us paying for it to look "perfect" was out of the question!

Chair covers are the expensive I'm most sour about. Were paying $900 for them (with the bows and setup) because the venue has ugly velvet chairs and I absolutely cannot stand velvet. Will my guests notice the chairs? Probably not. If the covers dont fit right, will that be a concern? Nah. As long as it covers the velvet, the cover could be upside down for all I care 😂😂😂
So all in all, having the round covers on square chairs, whether they're folded or covered by the bow, or just thrown out there, wouldnt bother me at all. 😊

I know you said that not using chair covers is not an option. I hear you, but...

    are these your chairs?

    Chair Cover Question 2

I would use these chairs in a heartbeat before I would overwhelm all of the decor with white chair covers. No one is going to notice your centerpieces or anything else. All you see is a sea- of white chair covers.

When the chairs are around the tables, no one sees them at all. If you must decorate them, I would use a simple vertical sash treatment rather than a chair cover.

Alternatively, a slip cover for just the back of the chair. You cn use fabric that goes with your decor, and don't even have to sew. Use iron on hem tape.

Yes, that's actually my venue as well. The reason the chair covers is such a big deal to me is we're actually not really doing centerpieces or flowers, just a single large candle in the middle of the table in a hurricane vase. The venue is so pretty that I don't want to overwhelm it with a lot of decor but I *personally* can't get over the chairs.

    Did you get married there?

I agree with this. Chair covers usually detract from the overall look rather than enhance it, and those chairs are actually not bad looking. I would not spend money on this and just use the chairs as they are.

The chairs that my venue provides for the ceremony are like the picture I attached. I hate those chairs. I wanted garden chairs but when they told me the price difference for getting those, it just didn’t make that much since to switch the chairs to what I like and people will only be sitting in them for up to 30 minutes. So unless we mysterically run into extra money we don’t know about, we are keeping the chairs above. I was not happy about it at first because I didn’t want people to think we really went cheap on the chairs. But after seeing the same chairs in BAM’s on here and other weddings, it made me feel better about having the chairs. The most covering up on the chairs will be like the picture, flowers tied to the chairs. If it is going to be super expensive to cover the chairs, is there not anyway to just leave as is? Will the chairs only be used for ceremony or also for reception?

I tried to to look at the link you provided to CV Linens but had seen a error page. I can only speak for them because I have ordered from them before. They are based in Austin TX and not China if that helps any.

Just saw yoyr most recent response. I think those chairs are fine. But if you do decide to order from CV Linens, do know that they run out of stuff quite a bit because a lot of people order from there.

No, we are having the reception and ceremony in the same place so the chairs will get significant use.

CV linens is where I want to order from as they are one of the few reputable places I have found and the least expensive. I already ordered runners from there and they're great. Other places like tableclothsfactory and efavorsmart, are not well reviewed. Unfortunately, CV linens doesn't have square top covers in white, only black Smiley sad

Honestly your guests won't care about covers. Do you remember any of the chairs from any weddings you've been to? I can't say that I have. I also agree with Muriel that they can distract and overwhelm the room more than a standard banquet chair does. Example of my one daughter's venue with and without chair covers. Personally I like it without.

No. You have the venue listed in your profile.

The simplicity of your centerpieces will be gorgeous, but to me, that's even more reason not to use chair covers.

The chairs on their own are far more elegant than chair covers.

    To each her own.

This!!! I remember no one else’s wedding chairs. And these sideby side pictures illustrate how overwhelming the covered chairs can be. And honestly they don’t even look good.

I agree with pp's! As a guest, I would barely notice the green chairs, but cringe when I see a room full of chair covers.... It always looks like a room filled with little kids covered in sheets pretending to be ghosts to me! Smiley winking Chair covers seem very 90's to me. If anything, as a guest, I'd much rather sit in your venue's chairs -- much more comfortable than Chivari's or most the other options, besides comfort, I wouldn't think twice about the chairs. Personally, I wouldn't bother with covers and save your money.

I don't like chair covers so I'm biased of course, about not using them. The green chairs actually don't look bad at all, if you can plan your decor around them I think they could look awesome. I used efavormart via ebay and I've had no problem whatsoever with my orders and I've placed multiple orders with them at different times and never had an issue.

Our colors are champagne, burgundy, and ivory so the blue/green is driving me crazy.

I'll remember that. Ebay and PayPal have better guarantees than ordering through the efavormart website so that may be one solution. Thanks!

I love the look of chair covers. We bought ours from cvlinens.com and will be reselling them.

    We used universals.

Not everything has to be in your color scheme. Sometimes having a pop of another color keeps it from being too overwhelming. I saw a wedding recently that was obsessive about their colors, even guest attire and it was hard on the eyes.

The square peg-round hole thing sounds way too hard. I'd go with universal... Or get one round cover and try it out.

Hi Krista, so you were able to use a round cover on a square chair?
