Chair covers don't fit!

Red Queen, on March 20, 2018 at 2:37 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

I'm freaking out... I just spent $xxx buying chair covers because I figured I could sell them after and get most of my money back. Now I find out they don't fit on the chairs at my venue! And the sashes won't be long enough either.

I don't know what to do. I definitely want the chairs covered but that means I have to buy the ugly universal ones. They come in colours but then what are the odds someone else wants 130 chair covers half red half gold? Or even all that one colour? But the white/ivory ones look so plain Smiley sad

Thoughts?

Why are you freaking out? Can't you return the covers? Are the chairs at your venue that bad that you need covers?

You should never buy anything thinking your going to sell them and get your money back. Why would someone pay the same for your used chair covers when they could buy the new ones, unless they were buying them from you at a steep discount.

Yeah... I would check the return policy. I wouldn't have bought them without knowing for sure.

I agree with this. I really don't think you can buy anything for your wedding and think you can resell it afterwards and get most of your money back. You just have to assume you won't get any money back, or pennies on the dollar.

You got some pictures of what's going on? I agree the universal ones are terrible. Are they banquet or folding chairs? (I'm half hoping to help and half trying to avoid the mistake myself.)

They are used- I bought them from another bride. So they can't be returned.

Here in my local Facebook group brides get more than half their money back for stuff like linens. I wasn't worried about that. I am worried about what to do now. These chairs are comfy but decidedly nonstandard size and I like the look of covers. I hate universals though.

No, my fiance is at the venue now and I'm not. I don't have pictures.

They're not folding chairs, they're stackable ones with really wide backs.

You should see if your reception venue has somewhere you can rent them from! I know ours does. We bought the table cloths (200$ for 25 round) but we will rent the chair covers and sashes. We will donate the table cloths to the church we’re having just the ceremony in after. They are a donation based church so there wasn’t a true cost to be there (we paid $250) and we know they are in desperate need of new table cloths so we felt it was a win win for everyone.

No, they don't. The venue provides tables and chairs only, we provide everything else.

I really don't want to rent either- that seems like a waste of money when I can resell afterwards. Heck, I bought tablecloths for less than the rental price.

Can you use the white or ivory covers and use red and gold for the sashes. It’ll be cheaper to replace sashes

I don't know that the sashes fit on the universal covers. With that big ugly knot on them it seems like it wouldn't look right, but I don't know.

I love the look of a basic chair cover with the coloured sash. We were planning to alternate red and gold. We already have sashes but I bet they are too short and they seem to come in a standard length.

If you just bought the covers, and haven't used them, it is likely you can get back most or all of what you paid. It's different than buying new ones. The greatest depreciation in value comes between buying them from a regular store and selling them as an individual seller in the first place.

Of course, that still leaves the problem of finding new ones. Are your chairs any kind of standard size? For example, even a basic place like linentablecloth.com will have them in banquet size, folding chair size, and Chiavari size, and if you get the wrong one, they won't fit.

I’ll need universal ones and I really don’t like how they look, with that ugly knot. You can’t put sashes on them so like I said in my original post I don’t know whether I should order the covers in red and gold instead but then I likely have to write off selling them at all.

Are you going to resell the ones you bought from the other bride?

I did sell them on a local Facebook group. They got snapped up really quickly. Linens tend to resell well but the universal covers cost more than twice as much new, since it's more fabric, and that bit sucked. I wasn't anticipating another credit card bill right now.

I bought white covers and will still try to use the coloured sashes I have already.
