Chair Sash Alternative?

Karen, on April 4, 2018 at 11:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

Originally I was going to have chair covers & sashes. But while discussing this with FH, he stated he hates chair covers & thinks they look stupid. Like a chair wearing a diaper.

Now I'm not so sure about having just the sash on the plain chair. Also, I feel like everyone does the chair sash. I need some ideas. Is there another, inexpensive way to dress up the chairs, that doesn't involve wrapping them up in any type of fabric or ribbon?

Here's my opinion on this, and my mom told me: "Is anyone REALLY going to care if your chairs are covered? What are people going to remember the most from your wedding? Good food, good music, good company."
Personally, chair covers/chair decorations are a waste of money so I'm not doing them.

Lol your FH is funny saying the chair is wearing a diaper. Smiley laugh Yeah, we did not cover our chairs. Our chairs looked pretty on their own.

Brides are the only people the wedding industry has managed to convince about chair covers and sashes. The most formal banquets and galas are held with bare naked chairs. The horrors!

I feel that chair covers and sashes take attention away from decor like centerpieces that are much more pleasant to look at.

I'm not planning on decorating my chairs. One less thing to worry about.

I’m not doing them. But a lot of places offer an upgrade to Chivari chairs (I’m not sure if I spelt that correct!). I know a lot of places charge for the cover and sash, so if you were already planning on spending, see if you can upgrade the chairs or if you can bring in your own. I’ve see some you can rent for like $6 a chair.

I have never remembered being WOWED by the chair covers and sashes at any wedding I've been too. I always remember the food, music, and the people. Oh and the cake if its REALLY delicious. I personally wouldnt spend the money or the stress worrying about what the chairs look like as long as the venues basic chair is nice enough and clean of course!

I've never thought diaper but I have thought ill fitting dress. Regardless, chairs shouldn't wear clothing. Too often they look sloppy once you sit on them and sashes and covers can become tripping hazards. Just skip it all, guests don't care

I wouldn't bother decorating chairs. I actually think they look better "naked," and no one but you will remember the chairs anyway.

I am not a fan of chair covers but I rather have them than ugly chairs. If the venue has ugly chairs, check into rending chairs. If the chairs at the venue are ugly and renting chairs is out, it is best to do nothing to the chairs. Putting a sash on an ugly chair only draws more attention to it. In my view, no burlap, lace, or satin ribbon will help a plastic chair.

The chair diaper comment is so funny!!

IMO chair covers look dated. I also don't like that I can't tuck my legs under the seat. Once people are sitting you will not see the chairs anyway. The ones we saw when doing tours had stains on them or were wrinkled. Skip them and spend the money on something that will enhance your guest's experience. Your FH's diaper comment cracked me up!

IMO it’s a very dated look, but I understand that sometimes the chairs don’t look the best and may need to be covered

Ok, no one likes chair covers, they suck, everyone hates them & it's a dated look. The chair cover has already been ruled out by FH.

So, lets move on with positive thoughts! I want some type of chair sash. Does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative to the satin, organza or burlap sash? I'm looking for something that hasn't been done to death. I'd love to hear what you've seen others do, be it in person or something on line, that caught your attention. I'm interested in new ideas that are unique, cute, different. Something outside the box, of what the typical chair sash is.

Should I have posted this in DIY?

I think what everyone is getting at is to skip decorating the chairs. It doesn't add anything to the feel of the wedding and honestly takes away from things. Sashes or anything else are fussy and potentially uncomfortable.

If you insist on something, keep it simple and cheap. Maybe, a satin ribbon bow. Whatever you do avoid burlap, a lot of people are allergic to the materials used to make it. I used to work at a fabric store and we used to play rock paper scissors whenever a customer wanted burlap cut. Well those of us who only got itchy from cutting it, those who broke out in hives or who started wheezing (rightly) refused to cut it at all

I am not of a fan of chair covers either, and I did get a good giggle at the diaper comment. I don't think I'll ever look at one the same way again! Smiley xd

Regardless of my feelings on it, It is your wedding, and, if you want to decorate the chairs, power to you!

I have seen some interesting ideas for decorating the chairs. My cousin had a lot of those pom-poms (see picture) in her wedding decor and made tiny ones to put strategically on the back of chairs. There are how to's on-line for it to make them out of tissue/regular paper, so not really expensive.

Another interesting idea a friend of mine did was get fake flowers and twist the "stem" around the back of the chair in a way that looked like they were climbing/growing about the chair. Dollar stores make them available cheap and cheerful.

Do you have a theme or colour? If there something that could play off of that or a miniature version of a decor element, it might be a good spring board for ideas.
