Sorry, it's my second post today! Would it seem tacky to do a champagne-only cocktail hour? Then have a full, open bar for the reception? But the name is a cocktail hour so I think there should be cocktails! Right? I'm trying to save money and having only champagne at the 1-hour cocktail hour would...

But the name is a cocktail hour so I think there should be cocktails! Right? I'm trying to save money and having only champagne at the 1-hour cocktail hour would save me $500. But if it's tacky then I'll just have the full bar open.

What if you added a signature/welcome drink as well? It's normally budget friendly to do so. At my venue they are $25 per gallon.

It's not going to save you. We had drinking champagne for the whole night per my mother's request and by the end of the night there was one bottle left that they divided up for the spastastic last minute impromptu toast my brother demanded.

I doubt it's going to be that much less expensive then you think.

Please offer beer and wine during cocktail hour. I know many people who would not want to drink champagne during cocktail hour including myself. Also the free champagne is for the toasts, not cocktail hour. I personally think this is a bad idea and that your guests won't be happy about it.

I could live on Champagne but not everyone thinks that way.

Cocktail hour needs cocktails and food.

Beer and wine should be added. You shouldn't serve a drink that you know some people dislike. You should be trying to meet everyone's needs. And no, not everyone loves wine either.
