Change the Date Deadline

Gina, on April 17, 2020 at 10:44 AM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 10

Hey brides!

I keep hearing that we should have a "change the date deadline" for our sanity. Our wedding is July 12th in rural northern NJ and I am not sure what to do or when to pull the trigger on anything! My venue won't discuss July weddings until May, so I was thinking May 15th as a deadline postpone. Thoughts?

We are July 25th and we just reached out to the venue to discuss options. I'm not sure what they will come back with, but I'm feeling less confident about a wedding taking place in July. Our stay at home order got extended to May 26th which is right around when we would send invitations. I'm not sure what is right, but gathering more information seems like a good way to deal with my anxiety right now. Best of luck to you!

My wedding is also July 25th and I was confident we
would be fine but since we just hit the 100 day count down yesterday and
there doesn't seem to be an end in sight, I'm much less optimistic. My
venue is also not talking to July brides, but are "confident they will
open May 1st as long as the government allows". My anxiety is so high
right now because if we have to postpone, I just want to know. We
ordered invites and are proceeding as we would to have the wedding July
25th, and will just buy stickers to place over the date if need be. I
contacted all my vendors and they seem like they'll work with me if they
can and if we need to change the date, but this is all really venue
dependent. I'm praying things will be better starting in May and just
continue into June-July and we'll have nothing to worry about. But I
think mid May will definitely be telling as to which way we're going to
    have to proceed.

    Hi Gina,

This is definitely a crazy stressful and uncertain time for everyone! It seems like a lot of July brides are waiting a few more weeks before making postponement decisions, but everyone's situation is different and it never hurts to be proactive about plan b!

You also aren't alone right now! ❤️

There are a ton of July brides also talking about their Covid-19 concerns in this discussion:

June and July Brides do not stress Covid-19!!!

And here's another discussion specifically about July 2020 Weddings! OsQM71bUJ0Qu4ly8UKJOrw-4MNRCjpvLo-YljRdj

I would start by talking with your vendors now to see what dates they have available if you do have to postpone. Some vendors are allowing their couples to put dates on hold.

    I hope this helps!

Our wedding is July 11 and our venue is only open for the summer season (outdoors/farm venue) so they aren't talking to any guests yet about postponing/rescheduling. They keep telling us to wait and see, but like you I'm anxious. I want a backup plan but that all hinges on the venue!

Our family and friends are already asking us about if we plan to postpone and I think most guests would prefer we reschedule to next year. We and most guests live across the country from the venue so I highly doubt anyone will want to travel by then. However I think our venue is going strictly on the law in terms of if they are allowed to be open, not the comfort of their couples and their families. Our planner and caterer are also through the vendor, which amounts to nearly $9k already invested in the date, so I feel like a different venue isn't an option.

I think we need to give guests at least two months notice if we are postponing or not, so I hope we have some clarity by early May. Reading all these forums about brides postponing to next summer makes me anxious that by waiting there may not be any availability anymore for other vendors, etc.

We are in Albany NY and talked to our venue today. They recommend we wait to send out our invites and see how things are mid-May. If we pull off our 7/17 wedding, us waiting to send invites will result in us giving guests less time to RSVP and we will have less time between RSVP deadline and wedding day, but it let’s us wait to see how things play out and make the best decision based on the situation.

I’m in Rockland NY July 17 I decided to postpone til October 25th still getting legally married July 17 in a small ceremony and postponing the party and vow renewal ceremony til October for peace of mind and for guests. I have many guests that are vulnerable and some that had to travel who may not feel comfortable traveling in July I just rather let things settle so I can have the guest count that I want instead of having to pick and choose.

That’s great that you were able to set up a new plan! I hope the peace of mind helps. We just nailed down 12/17 as a backup date with our venue. It’s a Thursday, but they had very few dates left this year before prices went up. We’re holding out a little longer to see how our region of NY responds. We have fewer in vulnerable populations so we are hopeful, even if it has to be smaller

I'm in a similar boat. July 18th wedding, Northern NJ. My venue was not willing to discuss postponing until May. I'm struggling with what to do but will not make a final decision until May 15th.
