Change wedding dress AFTER reception?

Mary, on May 11, 2017 at 10:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

So I've seen all the posts about changing a dress during reception, and if this question has been answered please just bump the thread because I have searched and cannot find it.

We are going out to the bars after our reception. We have a lot of friends and family from out of town, and an OVERNIGHT sitter! Like, this NEVER happens! So we are living it up. Would you change out of your dress to go to bars? They're classier bars, but I love my dress but yes, it's a wedding dress at a bar. So general consensus would be to change, correct? What if I didn't want to, would I be totally weird?

Never mind, reading it as a post now makes me feel silly and I don't want to be THAT girl at a bar trying to dance in a dress. I'll change. LOL

That's what I did. I wore my gown for the ceremony and reception, and I had a cocktail dress that I changed into before we left the venue

I've been out with a bride who said "I paid so much for this I'm not taking it off all night" but we had a big bonfire it wasn't out at bars so I think you can judge, if it would be more of a hassle then I'd change.

I mean, you don't have to! I saw a woman at a bar wearing her gown, and I didn't bat an eye! I just thought to myself, "wow - how fun!" It IS your wedding day - live it up. NO RAGRATS. I wouldn't judge you!

I don't know, honestly if your husband is in a tux and you are in your dress you guys might have a lot more fun just from attention from everyone else in there. It might make for a really cool night lol. People will automatically be buying your drinks allll night long haha.

I don't see anything wrong with keeping your dress on. Is everyone else changing? It will be very obvious to everyone at the bar that you all just came from your wedding. If I saw a girl at a bar in her wedding dress I'd buy her a drink!

Lol I can literally see how this would go if you change: you'll be drunk, you'll make " friends" who are also drunk and they will all be like "why'd you take off your dress??!!" Haha. Keep it on girl.

I saw a bride at a bar in her wedding dress, in a really cool hippie area of Brooklyn (that I now call my home!!) I LOVED IT!

We're headed out to a hookah lounge after our reception, and I'm changing out of my dress into a jumpsuit, because it's easier to lounge around in. But I wouldn't bat an eye if I saw a bride out at the bar in her dress.

I would keep it on!! You are only wearing it for one day and it might be a conversation starter at the bar! #FreeDrinks

    @V2O I haven't met a date twin yet!

Thanks!! I really wasn't expecting these kinds of answers, the thought of free drinks really is enticing haha. I'm leaning more towards wearing it then, especially since FH will be in a tux, and the girls will still all be dressed up. Makes sense!

No way! The last wedding I went to, the bride wore her wedding dress to the barhopping we did downtown afterwards and people loved it! We were at some whiskey place (everyone not with the wedding was in jeans) and strangers kept buying her drinks.

Also, the rest of your guests will still be in their probably-overly-formal-for-the-location attire too. :-)

Definitely wear it! Have fun and enjoy it! As expensive as these dresses are, rock it as long as you can! I would totally buy you a shot if I saw you out and about in your dress.

You do whatever you will feel the most comfortable with and beautiful in! I have had friends who did both. Personally, I'm terrified of spilling something on the dress or ripping it *when* I most definitely trip! lol

I'm changing into a short ivory/gold cocktail dress and flats after the reception.

You should definitely keep the wedding dress on. I wore my dress out after the reception and had a great time!
