Changing Dresses for Reception

Alecia, on July 12, 2011 at 3:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

My wedding gown is a Grace Kelly inspired gown that is made out of heavy fabric and has ALOT of intricate beading - basically wearing this dress is equivalent to carrying a young child around on my back. I found a beautiful, lightweight dress that would be so cute to change into at the reception so that I would be able to dance and enjoy the night. I was wondering what everyones views were on changing out of your wedding gown for the reception.

Should I wear my gown there and take pictures with my guests and then change? Or should I just change before I get there so I can enjoy the whole reception?

Thanks!!

PS - The top two pictures are of my dress, the bottom one is The Alfred Angelo Dress I'd wear to the reception. Let me know!

I think a lot of people do it. I kind of want to so I can do some salsa dancing and enjoy the night without worrying about the gown, but my ceremony will probably be really short and I want to enjoy the dress as much as possible since I'll only wear it one day.

At chinese receptions, they typically do 2-3 dress changes. both of my cousins had 4 different dresses (including their wedding gowns). both of them arrived at the reception in their wedding gown, and then changed into #2 between the 1st and 2nd course and then changed into their 3rd dress after dinner and before dancing.

your wedding dress is gorgeous, i would at least show it off one last time with a grand entrance, and keep it on for the 1st dance and the father/daughter dance. if you cant enjoy yourself (at least thru dinner) in the heavier gown, maybe change after your entrance and first dances?

Love your gown, it's beautiful. I think you should do whatever you want as far as changing dresses. It's your day, after all. It would probably be easier to dance in a shorter dress.

Personally, I am not, the dress I chose was enough $ I could never afford another dress, and not only that, I love it too much. Like Natacha V said, you only wear it one day, and I wanna enjoy it as much as I can.

I changed into my reception dress after our first dance, dinner, bouquet/garter toss, cutting of the cakes just so I could get get all my pictures done in my wedding dress. Changing into a reception dress was a must for me since I love to dance and I knew it would be high energy dancing at our wedding. Your wedding dress is beautiful and I like the reception dress you are considering.

I am going to wear my wedding dress until after the first dance, then I will be changing into a shorter, much lighter, reception dress.
