Changing last name after destination wedding in Puerto Rico

Hi everyone! We are getting married in Puerto Rico next year but I've heard that it's not usual for locals to change their lasts names after getting married. I wonder if any of you got married there and can tell me if it brought any inconvenience to the last name changing process once you were back in the states. If it did, were you able to solve it.

I know several people that got married in Puerto Rico but they all got legally married in their state before going.

You can simply supply your marriage certificate in order to change your name:
https://blog.ssa.gov/need-to-change-your-name-on-your-social-security-card/
The fact that most people in Puerto Rico don't change their names is irrelevant. Not everyone in the rest of the US changes their names, either, but the marriage certificate is still accepted as evidence of a name change.

I just thought that since the marriage license application there doesn't have a spot to choose a new name after marriage like the ones in some states it would make our life difficult! But now I won't have to worry about that, thank you so much!

Yeah, many states don't ask you what your name will be after marriage. But you can still use the marriage certificate to change your name.

I would wait til in the states to change last name. We are going on a honeymoon 8 months after wedding and changing last name after that.
