Changing last name in fl *update

Aimee, on August 26, 2020 at 4:15 PM Posted in Married Life 0 5
So got married 07/11, the pastor turned in our marriage license (ML) the same day and I got it back 1.5 weeks later. I was able to mail in my ML and new SSN form to my local Social Security office and they allowed me to have 2 middle names. I received a letter about 2 weeks later with my new name. With this letter and ML, I was able to go to DMW and change my name on DL which cost ~$50 because i also had to renew my DL as well. My new SSN card then came in the mail about a week later. The last step, I sent my ML, passport and form to change my name on my passport. Still currently waiting for that to come back. Price varies but since I just renewed my passport less than a year ago it was free. So changing my last name despite Covid only took ~6 weeks which is better than what I thought it would be.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been wondering how that would work with the SSN. I think the ones where I live are closed - but either way, having to sit there all day is also not ideal.

I wanted to share because I had so many questions and the DBs here was from years ago. I was tempted to buy one of the programs like hitch switch but decided to do the work myself and it paid off. It was pretty simple, many people said it was so expensive but so far all I had to pay for was the DL.

That’s good yours only took 6 weeks. I called the SSA office last month and they said they were working on May applications. So they are 3 months behind. So I won’t be receiving mine till November.🙁
