Changing photographers

A friend from school who does photography is supposed to shoot my wedding next year. But I'm already really nervous about it. She did my engagement shoot a few weeks ago and told.me I would have my pictures in a week and I'm still waiting. If she's already being this flaky over a few engagement pictures, what will my wedding be like. Should I just pay her for the engagement shoot(its included in the wedding photo pricing) and hire someone else?

Yes. We call these people "friendors" on here and advise against them. There are just too many horror stories using friendors that it doesn't seem worth the risk. And if she's already being a bit flaky with your e-pics then you're getting a little taste of things to come. Just pay her for what she's done and let her know you've decided to go in a different direction. If she's someone you're inviting to the wedding then you can say you just want her to enjoy her time as a guest.

    Hey Molly Smiley smile

This is a tricky situation. Hiring acquaintances can get complicated. If you’re going to hire one, it’s important to ensure you have a contract in place.

If you do wish to keep her as your wedding photographer, I would strongly advise getting a contract in place which includes the subjects to be covered, agreed detailed shot list, numbers of proofs you’ll receive, date your proofs will be ready, when and how you’ll receive your order, etc. Perhaps you already have a contract in place. If so, does it stimulate anything about the elad time on your engagement photos and when they should be ready by?

We went through something, but not quite like that. We ended up getting shots done - we didn't like them. Smiley cry Then I hired another and she and I spoke for awhile before i actually said yes. However our buddy redid our engagement shots and I am so happy he did! I told him he could do our wedding but he wasn't confident enough to do that. So he is gunna 'practice' but still enjoy himself at the wedding without being in contract. We agreed to be his 'test subjects' for building his portfolio but i still get the professional.
