Changing the date on printed invitations

Suzanne, on December 2, 2020 at 6:07 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

So I had to postpone my wedding from July 25, 2020. Our new date is July 3, 2021. I already printed the invitations with the incorrect date pre-pandemic, and I don't want to spend more $$$ to change a "0" to "1" and "25" to "3".

1. I know normally it would be horribly tacky to put a sticker or something on a wedding invite, but I feel like this postponement is part of our wedding story now and that it'll be ok for this. What do yall think?

2. How do I get 200 "1" stickers in the correct font, something decorative or stylish to go over the "0" in 2020? I'm sure there's a way to make it cute rather than looking tacky. Printing companies jumped into making postponement cards so quickly, surely they have thought of this sticker idea too. Maybe not, but I at least want to try it before I use the box of old invitations with kindling this winter...

I think the sticker idea is kind of cute! I would probably do a sticker for the full date, not just a single digit, to make sure it is obvious and legible what the new date is. You could either cover up the old date or do some type of cross-out and new date next to it.
Your best bet is probably Etsy if you want them to be cute. The single digits would also be easy with a Cricut if you can find a friend with one!

The sticker concept will be just fine! Nobody is going to judge you or think twice about it; and if they do - they must not realize we are in a multi-year pandemic and nobody can plan right now! 🤍

A lot of the printing companies will reprint invitations for free (just charge shipping) if you had to postpone due to Covid.

I would do a sticker for the whole date, I that'll be much easier and less time consuming

I would contact the company where you got them 1st to see what they can do for you. If they won’t work with you, then I would reprint the whole date not just a few digits.

You may need to just reprint them.

Reprint them. Many companies are doing free re-prints for Covid affected weddings. If they won’t, now is a perfect time to order new ones because of all the holiday sales.

The company I originally ordered them from went out of business with the economic downturn of the pandemic. My order was the last one they did before closing down. I´m sad that I had to postpone my wedding in all of this, but I feel bad for all of those who have had to close their businesses and lost their livlihoods from all of this.

I understand the sentiment to reprint them, but I had stretched the original budget to get really nice invitations to begin with, and then went way over when we had to buy postponement cards and shipping. At this point, reprinting would cost the same as our wedding cake, and I rather keep our budget for a cake than get new invitations.

Good idea! One of my bridesmaids just bought a cricut. This could be a fun activity to do with my bridal entourage. Thanks for the idea!

Since asking the company for a free reprint isn't an option, I think the sticker idea is just fine!

You could also either order, or DIY 'change of date' cards to add into your invitation when sending it!

That’s just sad! COVID has ruined so much! Just reprint the whole date instead of the 2 digits.

I did stickers of the full date. I ordered what were sold as "favor stickers" from the same website I ordered by invites (Minted) to get the same font and similar color of navy. I just trim the strickers down a bit and looks good enough to me! I think it has a 2020 sense of humor and 'we gonna make this work' feel to it. I just ordered the smallest # of stickers to start to make sure it looked close enough, then ordered more.

Thanks for the encouragement! I was hoping someone else was thinking about doing this or had done it. Now that's it's been a few days of trying to look at options, I'm leaning more towards biting the bullet and reprinting them. I've had to scrap so much from the previous wedding idea due to Covid and I've lost so much of my life during the pandemic. I lost my job in the economic downturn, my fiancé's grandmother died alone in a nursing home from covid, and my wedding dress was ruined in the September wildfires. Psychologically I've been trying to hold on to the "before times" as much as possible, including my wedding invites as silly as it sounds. But none of it is coming back. I just need to let go and move on.

It all depends where you got them printed..I use Zola for our wedding website and they have statements that say if the date has to be changed they reprint them for free..all depends on where you got them from though
