Changing the Date

FH and I have been planning a small wedding. At first it was just a courthouse wedding. So since we were doing courthouse I decided to pick Oct 23 as our wedding date since it is also our dating anniversary. It is a Tuesday, but I didnt care and wasnt budging. We have planned on doing a big reception next year.

Then FH said why not just go down to the beach and get married down in Galveston. I was fine with this. But then he started adding people to the guest list. I told him we are on a tight budget and we needed to be careful because we were going to have chair rentals and other expenses. I dont think he was listening, because last night he brings up the courthouse again. I stared at him. I didnt buy my dress for the courthouse. I bought my dress for a beach wedding.

So after more talking. He brings up the point of why do a ceremony and then a big reception a full year later. We have also discussed even doing another ceremony next year as well. His mom is unable to attend our ceremony this year. But we have her blessing. Well we found this historic courthouse in Harris County in Houston. It is GORGEOUS! I told him I would marry there. He emailed the judge last night. Well about 1am this morning since this is when we were discussing everything lol. We found out they only do weddings at this courthouse on Fridays. I was bummed. FH knows how I didnt want to change our date. How I was set on our date. Well guess what. I have decided I want to marry at THAT courthouse and I AM changing the date lol. We are moving it to that Friday Oct 26. It all works out because we can do the big wedding next year on Oct 26 since it will be a Saturday and our one Year Anniversary. I think it all worked out perfectly.

Here are pictures of the courthouse. It is the 1910 Harris County Courthouse. I am INLOVE!

It's still a courthouse vs a traditional wedding. While it is a beautiful building, it sounds like you need to think long and hard about what you would like out of a ceremony since you mention having another ceremony later and all this. If you're willing to change your date, why not just have a small wedding with immediate family in a venue and have the best of both worlds? Or just wait and get married next year at the big wedding? Why the rush?

Money is tight to rent a venue. Insurance is the reason we are marrying this year. He has a huge family as do I. Our wedding will be at least 300 people. I am ok with the courthouse. I was at the beginning. It was my idea to begin with. This actually will be my 3rd but his first. I was more worried about him doing the courthouse than me. But when he mention the beach I started planning all of that and then seeing how much it would be when he started inviting more of his friends and not family. But like I said. I bought my dress for a beach wedding and not a courthouse. I will rewear it next year as well.

And honestly the big wedding is more for his mom as she wants us to have a traditional wedding. Really she wants a traditional vietnamese wedding, but he doesnt want that. I will wear a vietnamese wedding dress for part of the reception though. But like I stated we have her blessing to marry now but she asked to do a traditional wedding in the future.

Also, with the way Houston weather has been this year we didnt have a back up plan to have everyone fit inside somewhere. Courthouse was our back plan and knew we couldn't fit 20-30 people there. We rather just be safe and plan the way we want.

Weddings and planning can get so confusing sometimes, especially when there’s a reason to marry sooner rather than later! I’m glad you found a plan that works for both of you, the building is really pretty.

Confusing is the perfect word! We also knew not everyone would understand why marry now instead of later, but it is our choice and I am very happy with it.
