Changing Venue

Olivia, on February 23, 2020 at 3:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
I need some advice. We’re 99.9% sure we’ll be changing our venue location because we are just not please ability to not set up the room as expected (though we were told we were) and the menu has changed since booking and the options have slimed down to things we don’t like (it is no longer customized).
We’ve looked at a new venue and fell in love with it. Just this Friday the person who had our date at the new location called to changed her date, so our date is available.
We’ve sent out save the dates but the new location only holds 200. We had 250 projected. We will have to cut down the list.
How do I handle not inviting some of the people we sent save the dates to because we have to cut down our numbers?

Once you’ve sent out save the dates, you can’t uninvite anyone without being rude. People who received save the dates will have already marked their calendars for your wedding and have potentially already arranged travel, hotel rooms, time off work, etc. I recommend looking for another venue that can accommodate 250. There’s really no good advice to give that involves telling people “actually you’re not invited” after you’ve send them a save the date.

Oh yeah girl I don’t think you should uninvite anyone. That would go all bad. A lot of people don’t RSVP due to travel and other things so I wouldn’t worry about it. But if it is possible maybe you should look for another venue?

Yeah there is no way you could un-invite people without royally upsetting them. You will need to see if this venue can accommodate in some way or as Gen said find another venue. Sorry to tell you that.

I wouldn’t uninvite anyone. I would look for another venue that can accommodate the number of people you are expecting to attend.

Unfortunately, once you send STD’s you’re pretty much locked in on your guest list, unless you want to be very rude and lose a lot of friends. I would either stick with your current venue, or look for a new one that can accommodate all 250 you planned to invite.

I was able to cut my list to 198. Me and my fiancé looked at it and there were actually several people that hadn’t replied to our 2nd request for their address, so at this point I won’t worry about them since they never got an STD anyway. We may actually be ok and I’m so happy because after I wrote this I immediately started thinking what a jerky thing to do...or even consider! I swear this wedding planning makes me lose it for a minute. I need to take a breather!
Thanks everyone for bringing me back to my senses!

If they never got a STD then you’re good to go! Glad it’s going to work out for you!

We sent out STD's for 248 people and paid for 200. Hoping 48 rsvp no, but if they don't, the venue does hold up to 300... we'll just have to pay more. I definitely wouldn't uninvite people. Try to find another venue.
