Changing your name & email address

ARudell, on September 19, 2017 at 7:11 AM Posted in Married Life 0 6

So, any great ideas of how to deal with a new name when your email address is based on your maiden name? Do I have to start over completely? Do I get a new address and forward my old emails?

Updated: specifically my personal google/gmail accounts.

Many of the people (women/mom's - I work with kids) I email for work purposes have emails that don't "match" their last name. I always figure it's an email address from before they got married and move on. It doesn't ruffle any feathers. You can keep the email you have now.

E.g. If I'm contacting someone named Jane Doe and the email is **********@*********.***.

ETA because of my work, with kids, the parents almost always use their personal email accounts to contact me.

I got a new personal gmail account and just have the emails forwarded. I sent an email to my close contacts notifying them of the change. It has worked great! Not as big of a deal as it seems. And if you get spam emails from your old address, at least with google, you can still unsubscribe from them from your new email. Also if you reply to forwarded emails from your new email account, you can choose to have the reply still appear to be from your old address, or vice versa.

I made a new one already so my new job can email me without having to change it a month after I start. I think making a new one wouldn't be too difficult, especially with Gmail. I can switch between my old and new easily on the Gmail app.

With gmail and you start a new account and link them so that emails from your old account are forwarded to your new account.
