Chapped lips?

Lauren, on April 21, 2019 at 9:50 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 33
Any other brides have terrible dry lips?? Mine are always dry and I have picked them foreverrrr. I know I shouldn't but it is a very bad habit of mine. I am currently on day 4 no picking. Started exfoliating and moisturizing with coconut oil but it doesn't seem to help. Am I just being impatient?

Help me out! I need my lips to not look terrible on our big day in 3 weeks!

Drink more water, your lips are craving moisture even if you think you're drinking enough your body is telling a different story. You should be drinking 2 litres a day.

From my experience chapped lips is usually a sign of dehydration. I would suggest you hydrate hydrate hydrate

First, make sure that you aren't licking them, that makes them worse.
Try some neosporim, it will make them tingle, but it may help them heal. Then cover with chapstick, it lasts longer than all the rest. Don't use a flavored one. If you find your self picking anyway, put a rubber band on your wrist and snap it hard everytime you find yourself picking. May help stop that bad habit.

Good luck. If worst comes to worst i find that using a lip gloss (with a high gloss factor) works best at hiding the flakes.

This is going to sound really, really weird. But lanolin is amazing for chapped lips. That is typically used as a nipple cream for cracked nipples while breastfeeding. I’m a labor and delivery nurse and we love this trick for chapped lips! Lol
Put some on before bed and by the time you wake up, they are healed!

Blistex actually has a lip conditioning thing. It's near the chapsticks at the store. It's thicker like a lotion - but I put it on every night with my face moisturizer and haven't had my usual dry lip issues

To those who said to hydrate, I couldn't possibly drink more water in a day. I drink 96oz of plain ole water every single day. I have drank that much for at least 6 months now. I don't think hydration is my issue.

I have tried the rubber band thing before and it just doesn't work for me. I just need to force myself to not pick. 4 days without picking is the longest I've ever gone, so I am happy. Smiley smile I kicked cigarettes! I can kick this bad habit!

I will definitely tried out lanolin!

Here is my number one super easy tip! Vaseline!

Most lip products are drying in the long run. I put a little swipe of vaseline on my lips before bed every night and when I wake up. I bought a mini tub in the travel section for my purse. I'll put on another swipe as needed throughout the day, but honestly every since I started, it isn't that frequent. Only if the humidity is low or it is super windy outside.

I have super sensitive lips (burts bees or anything with bees was makes them blister). I live in a super dry climate and before this I dealt with New England winters (walked everywhere even in sub zero temps). I swear by a combo of cocoa butter (just the big tub of Palmers) and good old vaseline. You can also by the cocoa butter in a stick to keep in your purse/desk drawer. Just layer it on heavy at night and you'll notice a difference right away (it will feel a little greasy but it works!!)

I never experienced dry lips until I stayed in Denver for a while. I recommend you drink plenty of water, brush your lips softly with your toothbrush to get rid of dead skin and wear chapstick. I prefer Burt’s Bees.

As everyone else has said hydration!!!

I did my HMU trial and promised my artist I would attempt to stop biting my lips and wear constant chapstick the few weeks before the wedding and she told me that doesn’t matter so much it’s mostly just making sure the lips are hydrated.

I do enough internal hydration. 96oz of water a day is my limit. I couldn't get more in! Haha.
I just need to figure out how to keep that moisture in my lips.

Moisturizing lipstick on the big day? I assume this is what my girl is using on me because I definitely don’t drink as much water as I should.

You could try a lip mask that you put on before you shower, then when you wash your face you just wash the lip mask off. It definitely helps my dry lips in the winter time!

I am with you and I've tried everything. I drink tons of water and I still have chronic dry lips. If we go through a dry Santa Ana week, if I travel, or if I have ANY sickness, I also chap around my upper lip and my nose. A dry flaky mustache...its really cute. When I'm in the bath I try to "steam" my mouth and nose with a hot wash cloth to soften the dry chapped skin before I apply aquaphor or vaseline before bed. It's also important to put zero lipstick or lip color product on for at least 2 weeks before any event. That's death to my lips. I wish I had a cure for you, but I at least wanted you to know you're not alone. I think there's just a few of us who cannot cause or control chapped skin like the rest of the world.
P.s. my 3 year old niece just got home from a weekend boating trip and her entire face is chapped! Lips, cheeks, nose, side of her eyes. The water and wind just wrecked her skin. Maybe it's a bit genetic? None of the other kids chapped like her.

    Thanks everyone.
I ended up getting some lanolin, aquaphor, vaseline and a lip mask.
I put on some lanolin and my lips already feel better. I'm gunna exfoliate tonight and put some vaseline on before bed.
Oh, I also got maybelline baby lips or whatever its called with spf in it. I'll use that when I'm out and about.
I'll probably do the mask 2 weeks before the big day, just in case it doesnt react well, I will have time to heal.
And I dont think I will wear any lipstick on the big day. I've never really been a lip color girl, although I have played around with it before. Haha!

I would give yourself 1-2 weeks to see improvement. Are you drinking a lot of water? That always helps me. Are you using a chapstick with SPF?

I went through a period of awful dry lips. Lanolin definitely helped at night. During the day, I actually found that wearing a lip gloss (I used to hate lip gloss) with hyaluronic acid in it helped a ton. The gloss made me self conscious of both licking my lips and touching/ picking, so it was psychological as much as moisturizing.
